The Hutchinson Police Department and the Reno County SWAT team arrested a Hutchinson man after a six-hour standoff on Wednesday evening.
The Hutchinson Police Department said in a press release that at 4:15 p.m. officers responded to a domestic disturbance in the area of 17th Avenue and Plum Street and located a female victim at Kwik Shop. The victim was evaluated by Reno County EMS and transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.
Other officers went to a nearby residence where the suspect was thought to be located and established a perimeter. SWAT responded after attempts to communicate with the suspect failed. The SWAT team entered the residence shortly after 10 p.m.
Damon Cantu, 23, of Hutchinson, was located and taken into custody. He was charged with attempted 2nd degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery — strangulation, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threat, felony interference with law enforcement, endangerment, criminal damage and disorderly conduct.
Per the press release, the case is still under investigation. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
