Hutchinson Monarchs hold Ad Astra Night, Cancer Awareness Night Saturday

The Hutchinson Monarchs baseball team will host two special events Saturday at Hobart-Detter Field — Ad Astra Radio Night and Cancer Awareness Night.

The Monarchs will host the Great Bend Bat Cats at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The purpose of Cancer Awareness Night is to recognize the Cancer Council of Reno County. The game will also serve as a fundraiser for the organization.

The Cancer Council of Reno County provides services to individuals and families affected by cancer and provides education about prevention and treatment.

Monarchs defeat Wichita Black Sox to improve to 6-0

The Hutchinson Monarchs improved to 6-0 Monday night at Hobart-Detter Field with an 8-3 victory over the Wichita Black Sox.

Carson Harrell pitched six shutout innings for Hutchinson. Harrell allowed just two hits, walked none and struck out eight. Camden Cornelius pitched the final three innings.

The Monarchs outhit the Black Sox 14-6. Seven other Monarch batters walked or were hit by pitches.

The Monarchs’ Dylan Bell blasted a three-run home run. Jake Knox belted an RBI double two innings later.

JJ Spafford, Bell and Jackson Legg drove in runs in the Monarchs’ three-run fourth inning. Jeter Worthley’s RBI single in the seventh inning brought in the final run.

The Monarchs played Tuesday night against the Hayville Aviators at Haysville in the first of three straight road games. Hutchinson plays at Haysville Wednesday and Great Bend on Thursday.

Hutchinson Monarchs’ infielder Blake Bradford was named one of 10 Jayhawk Collegiate League Players Of the Week.

Bradford batted .444 with two home runs and eight runs batted in. He scored six runs, had a slugging percentage of .889 and an OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage) of 1.454.
