Fairfield Falcons football team opens at Hartford

The Fairfield Falcons football team opens the season Sept. 6 with an Eight-Man Division II road game at Hartford.

The Falcons, who compete in Eight-Man II District 5, host home games in Langdon against Pratt-Skyline Sept. 6 and the Reno County Sabres on Sept. 13.

The Falcons, whose last trip to the playoffs was a regional runner-up finish in 1995, posted a 1-8 overall record and a 0-4 Heart of the Plains League in 2023. Fairfield’s last winning season was in 2014.

The Falcons’ last league title was in 1989 when the school competed in the Central Prairie League.

Fairfield now competes in the Heart of the Plains League along with Hutchinson Central Christian, Pretty Prairie, Attica, Burrton, Cunningham, Kiowa-South Barber, Norwich, Pratt-Skyline and Stafford.

Coach Kyle Finder starts his second year as the Falcons’ coach. He previously spent nine years at Greeley County-Tribune where his record was 22-44.

The Falcons return seven offensive starters and eight defensive starters. Fairfield runs a power wing offense and a 3-2 defense.

Returning starters on offense are quarterback Connor Fowler, center Chase Combs, guards Garrett Lanning and Gavin Foster, tight end Lane Schwab and running backs Brodie Snodgrass and Gage Brown.

Returning defenders are Fowler, Snodgrass and Brown at defensive back, Combs, Lane Schwab and Lukas Schwab at linebacker and Manning and Foster on the line.

Finder said Fairfield’s top rival is Pretty Prairie. The best teams in the league and district are Argonia and Attica.
