LETTER: Probst loves, is part of community

My friendship with Jason [Probst] began while I was working at the Reno County Courthouse and Jason was a reporter for the Hutch News assigned to the courthouse. I was first drawn to his sense of humor and soon recognized his integrity in his writing. We have remained social friends throughout the years. Our friendship has become familial.

I was first elected to the Kansas Legislature in 2012, and I was delighted when Jason joined me in 2017. Although we sat on opposite sides of the aisle, we remained two friends helping to shape Kansas policy.

One of my fondest memories is sharing a booth with Jason at the Third Thursday Chili Cook-off. We were both campaigning for re-election, I as a Republican to represent the 104th district, Jason as a Democrat to represent the 102nd. Our chili didn’t win any awards, but our booth was seen as an example of office holders with opposing views in competing parties working together. Can you say “bipartisanship?”

Jason loves Hutchinson and Reno County. He has spent his life here and has been active in our local culture. He has proven integrity and common sense, and he will listen to his constituents. Let’s return Jason to the Kansas Legislature where he belongs.

Or you could re-elect a come-lately outsider.
