Glenn Edwin Nisly, 95, formerly of Yoder, Kansas, and Middlebury, Indiana, died May 29, 2026, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. He was born Oct. 28, 1930, in Hutchinson, to Eli Edward and Catherine “Katie” (Yoder) Nisly.

Glenn was in the 1-W Service as a registered conscientious objector in Topeka. He worked 26 years for Detroiter Mobile Homes, performing a variety of jobs. In addition, he was a “hobby” farmer, with an appreciation for the land. After retirement, Glenn drove the Amish to any destination of their choosing, from trips to the grocery store to visiting relatives. He thoroughly enjoyed all the connections, conversations and fellowship afforded during the trips and was able to visit 49 states. He lived in the Yoder area almost 37 years and then moved to Indiana and lived there for 30 years. There, Glenn worked for Forks County Line and E & S stores. Above all, he was dedicated to his faith and family. Glenn was a member of Clinton Frame Church, Goshen, Indiana, and also attended Journey@South Hutchinson.

On Dec. 30, 1956, he married Nora Miller at Yoder Mennonite Church. She died Dec. 22, 1984. On April 10, 1993, he married Fannie (Chupp) Bontrager in Goshen, Indiana. She died June 25, 2025.

Glenn is survived by his children, Duane Nisly (Cathy) of Hutchinson, Omar Nisly (Kim) of Partridge, and Donna Shafer (Jerry) of Hutchinson; stepchildren, Ken Bontrager (Liz), Dorothy Bontrager (Lee) and Steve Bontrager, all of Indiana; stepson-in-law, Tom Kurtz of Indiana; grandchildren, Joshua Nisly, Jennifer Nisly, Jacob Nisly (fiancée Kami Bankston), Jerrod Shafer (Emily), Austin Shafer (Janae), and Jordan Shafer (Jenna); four great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Elizabeth Hochstetler, Alvin Nisly (Sharon), and Mary Miller; sisters-in-law, Bea Nisly and Esther Nisly; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and the Miller and Chupp siblings and their families, who were always so good to Glenn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lloyd Nisly (Viola), Paul Nisly, and Earl Nisly; sister, Emma Mae Helmuth (Omar); brothers-in-law, Eli Hochstetler and Joe Miller; and stepdaughter, Eva Kurtz.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 4, at Journey@South Hutchinson, 808 S. Poplar, South Hutchinson, with Pastor Joshua Haver officiating. Family burial will take place in Yoder Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, at Elliott Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Charis Community Church Fellowship Hall (formerly Yoder Mennonite Church), 3605 E. Long View Road, Haven.
