OBITUARY: Samuel Wilson “Sam” Hederstedt

Samuel Wilson “Sam” Hederstedt, 48, died November 29, 2025, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born August 5, 1977, in Hutchinson, to David Ross Hederstedt and Rae Patricia (Heath) Hederstedt.

Sam attended the Early Education Center, Faris Elementary School, and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1999. He was a TECH consumer and enjoyed being around his friends, roommates, and TECH staff. Sam had a wonderful and very recognizable laugh! He loved listening to country music, playing with musical toys, and listening to his sisters play the piano. Sam looked forward to visits from his mom, car rides with his siblings, and spending time with people he loved on his patio swing. Walking the pathways at Dillon Nature Center and playing the instruments in the playscape were favorite pastimes. He also had fun joining his roommates on outings to the bowling alley, where he spent most of his time at the pinball machine and jukebox. Sam was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.

Sam is survived by: sisters, Sarah (Chuck) Blake and Laura Hederstedt; nieces and nephews, T.J. (Tucker) Blake-Briggs, Rachel Kaphart, Annie Blake, Charlie Kephart and Joe Blake; stepmom, Val Hederstedt; stepsisters, Shawna (Jamie Kanski) Tunnell, Julie (Scott) Jimison, Lori (Carlos) Landron, uncle, George Carter; cousin, Elizabeth Carter; many step-nieces and step-nephews, extended family, TECH family, and friends throughout the community.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepsister, Renée Speicher-Prigmore, and by his aunt, Alison (Heath) Carter and uncle, Sam Heath.

Memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Grace Episcopal Church, 2 Hyde Park Dr, Hutchinson, with Fr. Ted Blakely officiating. Family inurnment will take place in the church columbarium. Family will greet friends from 2:30 p.m. till the time of the service. A reception will follow the service in Fellowship Hall. Friends may sign his book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to TECH Inc. or Dillon Nature Center, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

George Sand wrote, “There is only one happiness in life, to love and be loved.” Sam lived a happy life, for sure.
