NICKERSON—A head-on collision on K-14 Highway near 82nd Avenue killed two people Monday morning.

According to the Reno County Sheriff’s Office, a preliminary investigation indicated a Subaru SUV was heading northbound on K-14 when it drifted into the southbound lane around 10:14 a.m. At the same time, a Ford F-150 was heading southbound and pulled over onto the right shoulder to avoid the collision. The silver Subaru drifted all the way onto the shoulder and hit the F-150 head-on, the Sheriff’s Office wrote.

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders heard from witnesses that an infant and another person were trapped inside the Subaru. There were citizens at the scene performing life-saving measures on the victims before the first responders took over duties.

The Subaru SUV had four occupants, two of whom were pronounced dead at the scene, and the other two, including the infant, were taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center and then to a Wichita hospital.

The single occupant of the Ford F-150 was taken by private vehicle to Rice Community Hospital in Lyons for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office said it was withholding the names of the occupants of the vehicles until next of kin were notified.
