Civil rights attorney to speak at Freedom Fund Dinner

By Hutchinson Tribune Staff

The Hutchinson Branch of the NAACP will have its annual Freedom Fund dinner Saturday, with a keynote speech by former national NAACP General Counsel Dirk Lawson.

The dinner will also include a presentation about Martin Luther King Jr.’s journey through Alabama, put on by Jim Davis of Common Ground. The event is the NAACP’s only major fundraiser of the year. Proceeds from the event will go towards advancing the NAACP’s mission.

“We work to make sure that Black voices are heard, demands are met, and Black excellence is amplified–from classrooms and courtrooms to City Hall and Congress,” NAACP Hutchinson Branch President Calvin Wright said in a news release.

Those interested in tickets, donating, becoming a member, or asking any questions can contact the Hutchinson branch of the NAACP at 620-669-7202 or at its office located at 23 E. First Ave, Office 7. There will also be a silent auction and a raffle.

The Freedom Fund Dinner will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at the 1861 Club on the Kansas State Fairgrounds. The doors will open at 5 p.m.
