The Hutchinson Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the remains of an unidentified woman discovered earlier this year.
On Jan. 2, 2025, officers responded to a call regarding a deceased person in the 1600 block of East 1st Ave. While on the scene, officers located human remains. The scene was immediately secured and processed. The remains were later transferred to the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination.
Currently, the cause of death remains undetermined. However, there is no evidence of trauma prior to death. Based on forensic analysis, the deceased—referred to as Jane Doe—is believed to be a Caucasian female, likely over 50 years of age, with wavy or slightly curly brown hair featuring gray streaks. The condition of her remains suggests she had been deceased for approximately six months to a year prior to discovery.
A dental examination revealed significant dental issues, including severely worn, fractured and decayed teeth—details that may be helpful in identifying her. Despite ongoing investigative efforts, Jane Doe remains unidentified. The Hutchinson Police Department is committed to finding answers and providing closure to her family and loved ones.
Anyone who may have information about the identity of Jane Doe is asked to contact the Hutchinson Police Department at 620-694-2822, your local law enforcement agency or Crime Stoppers of Reno County at 800-222-TIPS.
