Hutchinson girls swim team 2nd at home invitational
The Hutchinson High School girls swim team placed second at the Hutchinson Invitational Wednesday at the Hutchinson YMCA pool.
Buhler placed first with 355 points, followed by Hutchinson 327, Classical School Wichita 160, El Dorado 144, Dodge City 118 and Hays 117.
“After this Saturday’s meet in Andover, we move into the postseason with our AVCTL Division I meet in Maize on May 17,” said Hutchinson swim coach Brad Johnson. “Last year the girls ended up in fifth place out of seven teams, but only 5 more points added to our 222 points, we would have finished third.
“Our goal for league is to make those 5 points plus enough to finish in second place. Last year our individual medal count was two out of 24. This year’s goal is six individual plus relays.”
The Salthawk swimmers compete at the Kansas Class 5-1A state meet, Topeka May 23-24.
“By that time all three relays will be qualified, Alayna Wiggins and AJ Gooch will be swimming individual events,” Johnson said. “Emma Buller, Morgan Most and Julianna Stivers have state consideration times for individual events, but will be joining AJ and Alayna on the relays.”
