The Hutchinson High School baseball team split a doubleheader with Newton Tuesday night at Hobart-Detter Field.
Newton won the first game 4-1, and Hutchinson posted a 12-2 run-rule victory in the second game.
Hutchinson (13-10) will host Maize on Friday. Newton (4-17) plays Friday at McPherson.
Salthawk softball team sweeps Newton
The Hutchinson High School softball team swept Newton Tuesday night at Fun Valley.
The Salthawks won the first game 10-5 and the second game 9-3.
Hutchinson hosts Maize Friday night.
Two Hutchinson Salthawk softball seniors were honored on Senior Night Tuesday at Fun Valley — Addison Coupe and Ceilidh Rimbey.
Junior Kohlbie Craft belted her fifth home run of the season.
In other softball action Tuesday, the Inman softball team swept Sterling at Sterling.
The Teutons won the first game 17-1 and the second game 8-4. Inman improved to 15-1 and Sterling dropped to 5-9.
Hutchinson varsity girls soccer team beats Maize 1-0
The Hutchinson High School varsity girls soccer team shut out Maize 1-0 Tuesday night at the Salthawk Soccer Complex.
The score at halftime was 0-0.
The Salthawks improved to 8-5.
The Salthawks’ JV soccer team played Maize to a 1-1 tie.
In other soccer action Tuesday, the Buhler High School girls soccer team lost to McPherson 1-0.
McPherson’s Ellie Bower scored the game’s only goal with 25 minutes remaining in the first half.
The Buhler-McPherson JV girls soccer game ended in a 0-0 tie.
Hutchinson Trinity golfers dominate Marion Invitational
The Hutchinson Trinity Catholic High School boys golf team won the Marion Invitational by 34 strokes over second-place Berean Academy.
The tournament was played at the par-72 Marion Country Club.
Trinity posted a 323 score, followed by Berean Academy 367, Solomon 381, Canton-Galva 387, Goessel 424, Herington 435, Inman 451, Southeast of Saline 461, Cotton Fallas 463 and Marion 470.
The Celtics placed six golfers in the top 10, led by Miles Blaylock who finished first with a 76 score.
Lincoln Barnes placed second, 80; Tyler Casebolt fourth, 82; Ian Shaw sixth, 85; Seamus Hogan ninth, 87; and Matt Armour, 10th, 89.
Inman’s top golfer was Creighton Friesen, who placed 20th, 101; followed by Braden Stutzman 27th, 108; Keetan McEuen 34th, 113; and Devin Penner 49th, 129.

Buhler boys golf team places 3rd at Halstead Invitational, 6th at I-135 Shootout
The Buhler High School boys golf team was busy on Tuesday.
The Crusaders placed third at the Halstead Invitational at the par-70 Wedgewood Golf Course and sixth at the I-135 Shootout at the par-72 Sand Creek Station Golf Course.
Pratt and Ellinwood posted 349 scores at the Halstead Invitational. Pratt was awarded first place because its No. 5 golfer had a better score than Ellinwood’s No. 5 golfer.
Buhler was third at 355, followed by Halstead 356, Hillsboro 379, Lyons 405 and Sedgwick 411.
Buhler’s Ben Gazaway placed fifth with an 86 and Trevor Tustain was seventh with an 87. Carson Thibault tied for ninth, 89; Carter Stover, tied for 13th, 93; Jackson Gehring, tied for 33rd, 107; and Crayton Erickson, 37th, 111.
Halstead’s Jacob Rose tied for third with an 81. He was followed by Lance Anderson, tied for ninth, 89; Wesley Parks and Maxx Linton, tied for 13th, 93; Brice Simon, tied for 24th, 99; and Harrison Wilson, 32nd, 106.
Lyons’ top golfer Noah Geeves tied for 13th with a 93, followed by Easten Benavidez, 26th, 100; Landon Ankerhol, tied for 29th, 103; Robert Beitler, tied for 33rd, 107; and Diego Cabral, 40th, 115.
Nickerson’s Addrick Nelson tied for 24th with a 99 score. Kyler Nikkel tied for 29th with a 103 score.
In the I-135 Shootout, the Buhler Crusaders and Towanda-Circle both posted 326 scores to finish sixth.
Andover won the tournament team title with a 300 score, followed by Wamego 308, Kapaun-Mount Carmel 310, Andover Central 312 and Andale 324.
Hesston placed eighth at 327, Independence 329, Salina Sacred Heart 332, Rock Creek 342, Chanute 359 and Eudora 388.
Buhler’s top golfers was Zach Chance, who tied for 13th with a 5-over par 77. Buhler’s Drew DeMeyer and Nick Chance tied for 22nd with 80s, Jace Heimerman tied for 52nd, 89; Isaiah Heredia, tied for 65th, 93; James Dingler, tied for 71st, 96; and Brennan Geilenfeldt, 82nd, 105.
Wamego’s Regan Kueker and Andover’s Grant Hatzenbue topped the individual standings with 68s. Kueker placed first by beating Hatzenbue in a playoff for the first-place medal.
The Buhler junior varsity boys golf team placed fifth in the six-team, nine-hole Wellington JV Invitational Monday at the par-70 Wellington Golf Club.
Goddard won the team title with a 193 score, followed by Wellington 194, Augusta 197, Rose Hill 197, Buhler 212 and Clearwater 244.
Buhler’s Talan Martin tied for 12th place with a 50. Landon Wood and Jackson Gehring tied for 18th, 52; Mason Jones and Jacopo Vanni, tied for 27th, 56; and Jerrick Gray, 32nd, 63.

Sterling golfers 8th, Pretty Prairie 15th at Cheney Invitational
The Sterling High School boys golf team placed eighth in the 15-team Cheney Invitational Tuesday at the par-72 Cherry Oaks Course in Cheney.
Sterling posted a 357 score and Pretty Prairie posted a 424 score. Wichita Trinity Academy won the team title with a 301 score.
Sterling’s top golfer was Cameron Morris, who tied for 16th with an 83. He was followed by Wyatt Newberry, tied for 22nd, 86; Waylon Schmidt, tied 33rd, 90; and Lane Weigel, tied 54th, 98.
Pretty Prairie was paced by Eli Young, tied for 65th, 103; Collin Weide, tied 78th, 111; Evan Young, 80th, 112; Wyatt Grillot, 81st, 113; and Dawson Dick, tied for 86th, 128.
Buhler’s Snyder, McDaniel commit to play college baseball
Buhler Hugh School seniors Logan Snyder and Mitchel McDaniel have made commitments to play college baseball.
Snyder signed to play baseball at Hutchinson Community College and McDaniel will play baseball at Sterling College.
Nickerson baseball team sweeps Smoky Valley
The Nickerson High School baseball team swept a doubleheader from Smoky Valley Monday at Lindsborg.
The Panthers wont first 11-5 and the second game 15-10. Nickerson bats accounted for 24 hits in the two victories.
In the first game, the top five hitters in the Nickerson lineup had eight of the team’s 10 hits. Rylan Morrell, Fallon Rist and Lian Hedrick each had two hits.
In the second game, Nickerson had 14 hits, including four by Mitch Jarrett and three by Chase Welch. Dale Smith and Rist each had two.
Nickerson improved to 4-18. Smoky Valley dropped to 4-14.
Nickerson hosts a doubleheader Friday against Larned in the final regular-season game.Smoky Valley hosts Hoisington on Friday.
In other games on Monday:
• The Buhler High School baseball team swept Andale 10-1 and 12-0.
• The Buhler softball team split a doubleheader against Andale, winning the first game 6-4 and losing the second game 11-3.
• The Haven High School softball team swept a doubleheader from Russell 19-3 and 21-0.
