Blue Dragon softball team takes doubleheader from Colby

The Hutchinson Blue Dragon softball team swept a Jayhawk Conference doubleheader from Colby Community College Wednesday at Fun Valley in the final home doubleheader of the season.

Hutchinson won the first game 8-0 (5 innings, run rule) and the second game 9-2.

Morgan Tomlinson pitched a one-hitter in the first game and improved her record to 17-3. In five innings, she waled one and struck out five.

Giovana Villalobos Carillo started on the mound for the Trojans and her record dropped to 4-4.

In 3 2/3 innings, Carillo allowed seven runs (two were earned because of four Colby errors) on seven hits, walked one and struck out four. Relief pitcher Jace Hammon allowed one run on one hit.

Bailey Backhaus had two triples and a single for the Blue Dragons and scored two runs. Tailor Golly singled, doubled, drove in three runs and scored two runs.

Gabby Stauffer had two singles and drove in two runs. Kaibryn Kruger scored two runs and stole a base. Emily Dice got an RBI when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Bailey Jackson singled for Colby’s only hit in the first game.

In the second game, Hutchinson starting pitcher Aubree Thomas improved her record to 12-2. She pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed two runs (both earned on five hits, walked one and struck out four. Tomlinson pitched 2 1/3 innings and struck out four for her first save.

Three pitchers worked for the Trojans and allowed nine runs (al earned), walked seven and struck out none.

Bailey Backhaus, Tailor Golly and Brie Brawner each had two hits. Gabby Stauffer drove in three runs and Golly two. Bailey Backhaus and Kaibryn Kruger each scored three runs.

Tess Polad had two of Colby’s five hits and Sofia Valenti drove in both of Colby’s runs.

The Blue Dragons improved to 32-6 overall (1st place in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference at 24-2, 20-1 at home).

Hutchinson’s final three doubleheaders are on the road, starting with a 1 p.m. twinbill Thursday at Garden City’s Tangemann Softball Complex.

The Blue Dragons play a 3 p.m. doubleheader next Wednesday (April 23) at Dodge City (Legends Park) and a 1 p.m. twinbill April 26 at Barton Community College (Cougar Field in Great Bend).

The Region VI Division I softball tournament is scheduled for May 2-5 at Dodge City’s Legends Park.

Colby dropped to 27-22 overall.

Haven, Central Christian, Burrton track teams compete at CKTL Meet

Haven, Hutchinson Central Christian and Burrton competed in the CKTL track meet Tuesday at Sedgwick High School.

Sedgwick, Herington and Hillsboro also competed. It was a participation meet and no team scores were kept.

Hutchinson Central Christian’s Belle Barnett brought home four first-place finishes. Barnett won the 100 (12.94), 200 (27.03), high jump (5-6) and long jump (16-1/4).

Jessa Losew won the 400 (1:00.92), triple jump (36-2) and shot put (21-2 1/2) and was second in the high jump (5-4).

Addi Loudenback won the 300 hurdles (51.68) and Townsly Huff won the javelin (82-5). The 4×400 relay team placed first (4:41.65) and the 4×100 relay placed second (55.21).

Central Christian’s Konnor Sullivan won the boys 100 hurdles (16.87), Jayden Linscheid won the high jump (6-0) and Keaton Miller won the shot put competition (44-10 1/4)

Haven’s Austin Honeycutt won the boys 400-meter dash (55.78) and 800 (2:20.67). Isaiah Doherty placed first in the 1600 (4:56.91) and 3200 (10:50.71).

Also placing first were Van Loop, 100 (11.53), Chandler Ingold, 200 (23.07) and Blake Richey, javelin (137-5).

The Haven boys swept the 4×100 relay (44.04), 4×400 relay (3:42.29) and the 4×800 relay (9:29.38).

The Haven girls 4×100 relay team placed first with a time of 54.87 seconds.

Second-pace finishers were Maddie Richey, discus (74-0); Gabby Hopkinson, javelin (74-1) and Rilynn Patry, shot put (30-10 1/2).

Burrton’s Shay Hayden placed third in the javelin (71-10) and fifth in the discus (71-10).

Burrton’s Isaac Jones placed second in the 1600-meter run (5:06.89) and second in the 3200 (11:15.02). Noble Phillips placed third in the 300 hurdles (46.25). Ryker Barnes and Justin Ballard placed fourth and sixth in the 3200 (5:42.92 and 5:50.26).

The Burrton 4×800 relay placed third (10:02.15) and the 4×100 relay was fifth (49.96). Colt Keith placed 12th in the discus (77-7), 18th in the javelin (72-11) and 20th in the shot put (26-10 3/4).

Buhler girls soccer team blasts Wichita Collegiate, JV beats Wichita Defenders

The Buhler High School varsity girls soccer team blasted Wichita Collegiate 6-0 Tuesday.

The Crusader junior variety squad shut out the Wichita Defenders 2-0.
