Firefighters from the Hutchinson Professional Fire Fighters Association Local 179 will stand at the intersection of 17th and Lorraine with a boot in hand to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Sunday, Nov. 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“For 70 years, the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Fill the Boot campaign has raised critical funds for research and care for people who live with a neuromuscular disease, and we are honored to be a part of their effort for this important mission reaching a historic milestone this year,” said Dylan Lesser, MDA Coordinator for the Hutchinson Professional Fire Fighters Association Local 179 in a press release.

The partnership between the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) has raised more than $700 million since 1954. In addition to fundraising, the IAFF continues to raise awareness, and firefighters volunteer at the MDA Summer Camp.

The two organizations have also partnered to raise awareness and support firefighters affected by Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also called Lou Gehrig’s disease.
