Hutchinson Trinity’s season ends with overtime loss at Medicine Lodge

The season ended for the Hutchinson Trinity Catholic High School with a heartbreaking 22-20 overtime loss Friday night at Medicine Lodge in the Kansas Class 1A state playoffs.

The Celtics finished the season with a 4-6 record.

Medicine Lodge (9-2) will play Valley Heights (8-2) in the 1A state quarterfinals on Nov. 15.

Valley Heights defeated Sterling 24-19. Sterling finished the season with a 6-4 record.

Hoisington 24, Haven 14

The Hoisington Cardinals ended Haven’s season with a 24-14 victory in the Kansas Class 2A state second round game Friday night at Hoiusington.

Hoisington (6-4) will play Southeast of Saline (10-0) in the 2A state quarterfinals Nov. 15.

No. 1-ranked Southeast of Saline routed Norton 34-7 Friday night at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina.

Beloit 28, Halstead 0

The Beloit Trojans shut out the Halstead Dragons 28-0 Friday night at Beloit.

Beloit led 8-0 after one quarter and 14-0 at halftime. The Trojans tacked on another 14 points in the second half.

Beloit improved to 8-2. Halstead finished the season with a 4-6 record.

Beloit will play Garden Plain in the quarterfinals on Nov. 15. Garden Plain defeated Phillpsburg 28-0.

Little River 34, West Elk 14

Little River defeated West Elk 34-14 Friday night in the Eight-Man I second round Friday night at the Cheney High School football field.

Little River will play Central Plains in the quarterfinals on Nov. 15. Central Plains defeated Chase County 58-52.

Thursday night: Buhler 62, Mulvane 21

The Buhler Crusaders advanced to the Kansas Class 4A state football quarterfinals with a 62-21 victory over the Mulvane Wildcats in the second round Thursday at Mulvane.

Buhler led 15-8 after the first quarter, 29-14 at halftime and 42-14 at the end of the third quarter.

Buhler will play Wamego in the quarterfinals. Wamego defeated McPherson 20-13 Friday night in the pouring rain in Wamego.

Buhler lost to Wamego 28-7 in Week 1 and defeated McPherson 28-21 in Week 8.

Mitchel McDaniel rushed for 226 yards on 21 carries and scored four touchdowns for the Crusaders. Nick Gazaway added 144 yards on 12 carries. Asher Zachary had 1 carry was a 65-yard TD run.

Buhler quarterback Brendan Scripsick passed for 48 yards and ran for 29. Quentin Pisano caught 1 pass for a 31-yard TD.

Will Hanen made 13 tackles for the Buhler defense. Gazaway made 10 stops.

Mulvane quarterback Manny Myers passed for 126 yards and rushed for 84.
