COLWICH—How time flies! Yes, before you know it, we will be turning our calendar pages to November. What’s special to remember about November?

For number one, we have to change our clocks as well and fall backwards! Before we make those changes, we have other happenings.

The World Series is beginning this week, along with professional basketball at Madison Square Garden, with New York being No. 1.

Locally, the Lady Cardinals finished playing volleyball and are trading those uniforms for basketball uniforms. Their first practice was Monday.

And now, we can officially celebrate Halloween on Saturday, the 24th, in the church’s rectory lot from 7 to 8 p.m.

Then, on Sunday, the 25th, visit the Stockemer Farm at 3660 N. 215 Street West, Colwich, from 2 to 6 p.m. for their festival in the Prairie Hill Vineyard. Admission is free, and the event is dog friendly. I haven’t enjoyed it recently, but when I did with my family, no one wanted to leave. There are loads of fun activities, along with food and drink.

Go have fun…everyone will enjoy themselves!

Happenings at Colwich Grade/Middle School

•Saturday, Oct. 24: Trunk or Treat Halloween from 7 to 8 p.m. in the church rectory lot

•Monday, Oct. 26: Red Ribbon Week

•Thursday, Oct. 29: Pre-K Halloween parties 10:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.

•Friday, Oct. 30: Halloween Costume Parade, 2 p.m. in the south gym; HSO Halloween parties, 2:30 p.m.

•Monday, Nov. 2: No school, teacher inservice

The week of Oct. 26 to 30 (Monday to Friday) will be a little different clothes-wise. October has been the National Bullying Prevention Month, or Red Ribbon Week. Students and staff will be dressing accordingly: Monday – Mis-matched; Tuesday – Color; Wednesday – Pajamas; Thursday – Jersey; and Friday – Halloween

Congratulations to October athletes Birdie Hockett and Lawrence Doll

Congratulations to CES and Colwich Lions Club seventh grade student Jude Winter!

City of Colwich

Think before you flush!

Items like feminine hygiene products, wet wipes (even the flushable ones), paper towels and facial tissues do not belong in your toilet.

Check out the city’s Facebook entry to view what happens to the sewer system. It is expensive to repair when broken, and the community’s money is used to fix the situation. Wouldn’t you like for your money to be used in better ways?

It would help if you remember the three Ps: pee, poop, paper (toilet tissue) or #ThinkBeforeYouFlush or #NoWipesinthePipes

Colwich Farmers Market

Open Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Veterans Park.

Thank you to Mary Jo Hieger, Seeds & Saws LLC, and Vickie & Kristie Fair, who braved the rain and sold their foods last week. That is true dedication to our community!

Colwich 4-H needs your help!

Do you have nonperishable food items you can part with to fill up a food donation box for their activity? Boxes can be found at the community library and Kraus Foods. Thank you very much!

Sacred Heart Church

An exciting adventure happening in the cemetery is the installation of outdoor Stations of the Cross. Work is taking place now, and the hope is they will be installed in time for Lent. What a beautiful place to give prayers!

You can also find pictures of the church’s anniversary weekend on Facebook. Participants looked as if they enjoyed themselves but especially the little ones, our next generation.

The Knights will have breakfast burritos after the 8 and 10 a.m. Masses.

Guess that’s it for this week. Take care and check out the November election candidates for Colwich: mayor is running unopposed. As for council, presently Jillian Linnebur and Bill Quaney are up for re-election, and Tylor Struckman (past councilman) plus a new citizen and candidate, Rick Marsh (a Lions Club member and mows lawns for free, if the homeowner is disabled) and Brad Banz (volunteer fireman for the city).
