Faith community networks to aid residents in need

Cathie Haen of Faith United Methodist Church and Jay Brown of Hutchinson First United Methodist Church prepare peanut butter sandwiches in First United’s kitchen to put out in the food boxes on the west side of the church for the homeless to eat. Since summer, the churches, both led by Pastor Mik King, have been taking packed lunches and hygiene kits every Monday to parks and other areas where the homeless congregated. But with the cold weather, those people have disappeared, so the church has eliminated things in the lunches that might freeze and changed its distribution method.
