HUTCHINSON—For the second year in a row, First Presbyterian, Emanuel Lutheran and Grace Episcopal will offer a joint service to celebrate “Blue Christmas.”

This service begins at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, at First Presbyterian Church, located at 201 East Sherman St.

Blue Christmas worship services traditionally occur on or around the winter solstice, the longest night of the year, and are meant to provide hope and healing for those experiencing grief, loss or other difficult life situations during the holiday season.

“Although we often think of the holidays as a time of joy, celebration and fellowship with family and friends, for some, the Christmas season means anxiety, stress and isolation,” First Presbyterian pastor Reverend Christy Kass said. “By working together, our congregations hope to provide a meaningful service for the community and an experience of solace and comfort for those having a hard time.”
