HUTCHINSON—Greg Fast, Stacy Goss, and Darrin Truan won seats on Hutchinson City Council in Tuesday’s election.
Truan defeated Carlton “Duke” DeVaul, 3,132-1,892, for the at-large seat. Goss, who currently holds the at-large seat, ran in the northwest district. Incumbent Jon Richardson did not seek reelection.
Fast, the incumbent in the southwest council district, defeated challenger Kaden Winters, 674-310.
“I would like to thank all of those who trust me and I appreciate the trust my constituents have placed in me for the next four years,” Fast told the Tribune after Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
“I took this election seriously, and I’ll continue to take my job seriously on council,” he added.
In the northwest district, Goss defeated Devon Reese, 1,484-832.
Voter turnout in the city was 21.36%. County Clerk Jenna Fager told election workers at training in October that city and school district elections in the county average about 17% turnout.
Election results will not be finalized until the canvass. Reno County’s canvass is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the conference room at the Reno County Courthouse Annex, 125 W. First Ave., Hutchinson. Sedgwick County’s canvass is tentatively scheduled for 9 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Sedgwick County Election Office, 510 N. Main St., Suite 101, Wichita.
Abbyville
Abbyville City Council had two candidates for two at-large seats. Incumbent James A. Carter received 11 votes, and Kristin Runyon received 12.
Abbyville had 25.45% turnout.
Andale
Incumbents Jennifer McGaffin, Leonard Rau, and Chad Smith won reelection to Andale City Council with 29, 41, and 35 votes, respectively, as the only candidates on the ballot.
Arlington
Christine Marshall was the only candidate on the ballot for three at-large positions on Arlington City Council. She received 22 votes, but Reno County reported 48 ballots cast in the election, with unresolved write-ins.
Turnout in Arlington was 16.78%.
Buhler
Andrew Epp and Michael L. Knopp held the lead for seats on Buhler City Council with 106 and 95 votes, respectively, ahead of Samantha Neill and Darrell Schultz, with 92 and 78 votes, respectively.
Ryan Wray won an uncontested race for mayor, receiving 179 votes.
Turnout in Buhler was 22.35%.
Colwich
Brock Neville, Jesse P. Kraus, and Kurt Burkhart won at-large seats on Colwich City Council with 151, 139, and 112 votes respectively, defeating Tylor Struckman, 65, and Sean Black, 53.
Garden Plain
Incumbent Kevin R. Hammond defeated challenger Candye Daughhetee in the Garden Plain mayoral race, 72-19.
Incumbents Jessica Lyman and Tracy Thul were reelected to City Council in uncontested races, receiving 84 and 71votes, respectively.
Haven
Haven had four candidates to fill three at-large City Council seats. Ciara Powers, Shelli Rettig, and Corey D. Brock prevailed with 84, 75, and 62 votes, respectively. Donald Cofer received 38 votes. Powers was the only incumbent in the race.
Turnout in Haven was 15.01%.
The Highlands
Between mayor and City Council, The Highlands had six positions up for election but no contested races.
Lacey Stone won the mayoral race with 87 votes.
In the City Council race, Joey Dean, Christina Gardner, Jacqulyn Sue “Jackie” Ashcraft, Jeff Jackson, and Raymond E. Morris Jr. received 78, 72, 71, 63, and 34 votes, respectively. Gardner and Jackson are incumbents.
Turnout in The Highlands was 32.59%.
Langdon
Langdon had no candidates on the ballot for mayor or three City Council positions.
With 14 voters, Langdon had 37.84% turnout.
Mount Hope
Denise McGrew, Matthew Morris, and Chris Rasmussen won seats on Mount Hope City Council with 72, 59, and 47 votes, defeating Daniel Johnson, 37, Daniel Coble, 35, and Patrick Youngkin, 24.
Morris and Youngkin are incumbents.
Nickerson
Incumbent Nickerson Mayor Peggy Laura Ruebke defeated challenger Trina Stum, 120-41.
Brad Berridge, Sarah Gilbert, and Angela Richard won the race for Nickerson City Council with 93, 92, and 83 votes, respectively. Berridge and Richard are incumbents. They defeated Bryan Montoya, with 63, Gordon Roth, with 56, and Sherri Skeen with 37.
Turnout in Nickerson was 25.85%.
Partridge
Incumbent Partridge Mayor Rick Smith won reelection uncontested with 29 votes.
Two at-large City Council seats had no candidates, but 37 write-in votes were cast.
Turnout in Partridge was 23.29%.
Plevna
James Hall, Gail L. Holcomb, and Amber Mendenhall (Griffin) received 20, 21, and 21 votes, respectively, for five seats on Partridge City Council. There were 34 write-in votes for City Council.
There were no candidates on the ballot for mayor, and 20 write-in votes were cast.
Plevna had 32.35% voter turnout.
Pretty Prairie
Incumbent Pretty Prairie Mayor Dustin VanScyoc won an uncontested race with 48 votes.
Jeff McLeland and incumbent Jacob Strohl won two City Council seats uncontested with 69 and 64 votes, respectively.
Turnout was 16.15% in Pretty Prairie.
South Hutchinson
Incumbent South Hutchinson City Council member Valerie Griffin was the only candidate for three seats on the council, receiving 173 votes.
In September, the council failed to obtain the supermajority required to pass a charter ordinance that would have reduced the size of the council from six to five members.
Voter turnout in South Hutchinson was 11.11%.
Sylvia
Incumbent Carlyn G. Conrad led Dustin Pugh in the Sylvia mayoral race, 36-34.
Douglas W. Hall and Jonni Labs won two City Council seats with 47 and 32 votes, respectively, defeating incumbents Kathi Keesling, 27, and Keith Blaske, 26.
Turnout was 52.24% in Sylvia.
Turon
James M. Knoll, Rose Richter, and Christopher L. West led an uncontested race for three Turon City Council seats, with 23, 26, and 27 votes, respectively. There were 148 write-in votes.
Turnout was 36.77%.
Willowbrook
Willowbrook City Council had no candidates on the ballot for five seats, but 168 write-in ballots were cast.
Turnout was 43.37%.
