HUTCHINSON—Hutchinson Community Foundation has named Jan Steen as its new senior program officer.
Among his responsibilities will be administration of the foundation’s grantmaking, scholarship, and Youth Philanthropy Council programs; implementation of foundation strategic initiatives; and collaboration with community stakeholders, Hutch CF said in a news release Monday.
Steen comes to the foundation with extensive community development, grant, and facilitation experience. Most recently, he was the state community vitality specialist at Kansas State University Extension, where he conducted community assessments, facilitated discussions with adult and youth audiences, sourced, wrote and administered grants, designed curricula and provided educational programming.
Steen has been honored with the State Meritorious Service Award-Epsilon Sigma Phi and the Outstanding State Specialist Award, both from Kansas State University. Steen also received the Excellence in Community Development Award for Grant Support Programming from the Kansas Association of Community Development Extension Professionals. He is also an alumnus of Leadership Reno County.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jan to our team and our collective effort to strengthen Reno County communities,” Hutch CF Director of Strategy Kari Mailloux said. “Jan’s experience working with rural communities and nonprofits from an asset-based approach fits perfectly with our interest in building on the strengths of our local people, places, and organizations.”
Steen will start his position in mid-November.
