Youth bowl games to support childcare center

By Hutchinson Tribune Staff

BUHLER—Grade school football teams from Buhler and Wyandotte County will take the field Nov. 1 for the inaugural Cosmo Bowl in Buhler.

The games will raise funds toward a science, technology, engineering, and math-focused childcare center, a collaboration of the YMCA, Cosmosphere, Horizons Mental Health Center, and Hutchinson Regional Medical Foundation, according to a news release.

“By attending the Cosmo Bowl, our community isn’t just cheering on our young athletes,” said Benjamin Anderson, president and CEO of Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System. “We’re investing in a brighter future for Reno County children through hands-on STEM learning and early childhood development.”

According to the release, the planned childcare center will have capacity for 130 children: 100 for working families and 30 specifically for at-risk children.

The Cosmo Bowl will start with a pre-game tailgate from 3 to 6 p.m. on Nov. 1 at the Buhler High School football stadium, 611 N. Main St. The gates open at 6 p.m., and the fourth- and fifth-grade game will kick off at 6:30 p.m. The sixth-grade teams will take the field immediately after that game.
