Teen dies after two-car crash

HUTCHINSON—A Hutchinson 19-year-old died after a two-car crash on Aug. 27 in the 6100 block of North Plum Street.

Reno County Sheriff’s Department deputies, Hutchinson Fire Department, Reno County Emergency Medical Services, and Kansas Highway Patrol were dispatched to a rollover with entrapment, initially identified as a single-vehicle crash, the Sheriff’s Department wrote in a public statement.

At the scene, they found a 2010 Chevrolet Corvette in the east ditch that had struck a tree and overturned. Responders extricated the driver, Kaden Marcum, began treatment, and transported him to a Wichita hospital in critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries.

While investigating, responders learned that another vehicle was involved in the crash. The Sheriff’s Department reported Ethan Goble, 20, of Plevna was driving a 2012 Dodge Charger. The Sheriff’s Department wrote that both vehicles were northbound on Plum Street when the vehicles collided while Goble was overtaking Marcum. Marcum’s vehicle went off the road and struck the tree.

The Sheriff’s Department said speed appeared to be a factor in the crash.
