HUTCHINSON—A new nonprofit focused on childcare in Reno County announced its official launch and work with three childcare centers Tuesday.

Kids Collective Child Care Network will manage Abundant Life Community Childcare and Crusader Corner Daycare in Hutchinson, along with Buhler Beginnings in Buhler, employing 50 childcare workers and serving 200 children, including after-school care, a news release said. Kids Collective plans to expand to other childcare centers and provide opportunities to home-based providers, beginning in early 2026.

The launch of Kids Collective has been made possible by federal American Rescue Plan Act funds provided through Reno County and the City of Hutchinson. Last week, the Reno County Commission amended its grant agreement with United Way of Reno County to pay $367,230 in advance for Kids Collective, rather than having to wait for reimbursement of expenses.

Kids Collective’s goals include providing back-office and operational support to childcare centers, creating consistent, high-quality environments for children, reducing burdens on childcare providers, improving workforce retention and expanding access to reliable, nurturing childcare for families.

Kids Collective is a result of the Reno County Child Care Task Force. The task force will continue to provide support to all Reno County childcare providers through resources, training and grant opportunities.

The task force announced the selection of Heather Faulkner as executive director of Kids Collective in July.

“Heather brings unmatched passion and experience to this role,” Kids Collective Board President Kari Mailloux said in the news release. “She’s been in the trenches, understands the challenges providers face and is the ideal leader to guide Kids Collective through its start-up phase and beyond.”
