OPINION: Nice to meet you, I’m Brendan

By Brendan Ulmer

Hello! My name is Brendan Ulmer, and I am thrilled to be the newest member of the Hutchinson Tribune staff, replacing Michael Glenn as the Tribune’s resident young guy.

I just wrapped up my academic career with the University of Kansas last December, where I studied Film, Media and Journalism. Rock Chalk Jayhawk, we’re gonna win it all this year in every sport/competition — I bet my life on it.

I spent my freshman year of college attending Hutchinson Community College, where I wrote for the Hutchinson Collegian under the tutelage of Brad Hallier. If you don’t enjoy my writing, please direct all your criticisms toward him, thank you.

I am very excited to be a part of this paper and its mission to put community journalism back in the hands of people who live there, rather than in the mitts of some far off investors who likely have never even been to the area — and certainly have never lived there. What Glenn has accomplished before being old enough to drink is quite remarkable. If you see him out in public, buy him a juice box.

I will be covering a little bit of everything, local government, sports, human interest etc.

I live here in Hutchinson with my significant other, Maddie, and our two cats, Selina and Moose (named after Mike Moustakas).

If you ever come in contact with me in the wild, do not hesitate to come up and say hello — I would love to meet you!

I look forward to covering the things you care about!
