The Hutchinson Trinity Catholic High School boys and girls cross country teams will field 21 runners this season, with 16 returning from the 2024 campaign.
Trinity’s time trials will take place at 8 a.m. on Aug. 30 (Saturday) at Rice Park. The first race of the season is the Thomas More Prep-Marian Invitational Sept. 6 in Hays.
Jarod Wannamaker returns as the Trinity Celtics’ head cross country coach.
“They (the Trinity runners) will be coached by myself, with this being my sixth season,” Wannamaker said. “Malachiey Alvarez will serve as assistant coach. This will be his first season. He is a 2025 graduate and state qualifier from the 2024 season.”
The Trinity boys team, led by eight seniors, have finished as the Kansas Class 2A state runners-up the last two seasons and returns eight of its top 10 2024 state competitors.
The Trinity girls team will field a full team for the first time since 2022 with four returners and at least two incoming freshmen.
Top runners for the Celtics:
•Senior Jacob Lindstrom set the school record with a time of 15 minutes, 54.7 last season at the Sterling meet and finished third at the state meet.
•Seniors Cameron Kiser and John Lindstrom also medaled at state, finishing 13th and 20th overall.
•Seniors Ambrose and Sam Pennycuff round out the returning runners from state, but the 2024 team was deep with talent.
•Seniors Alex Guajardo, Noah Lau and Bryan Maya all look to contribute as well. They were state alternates last year.
•Juniors Dylan Bornholdt and Sam Madden, sophomore Jonathan Springer and several other runners look to make moves and contribute as well.
•Sophomore Mia Vega is Trinity’s top girls returner. She was hampered by injuries early last season but came on strong towards the end.
•Fellow sophomores Emma Martin and Clara Robinson both made great progress over the season as well.
•Sally Harroald also returns. She had her season cut short last season after suffering a foot injury at the Buhler Invitational.
Preseason rankings have not been announced, but Wannamaker said the Trinity boys most likely will be ranked first in Kansas Class 2A by ks.milesplit.com.
