Hutchinson Monarchs-Wichita Wildcats game suspended because of rain, lightning

The Hutchinson Monarchs led the Wichita Wildcats 3-1 in the bottom of the first inning Monday night at Hobart-Detter Field when the game was suspended because of rain and lightning in a Kansas Collegiate League matchup.

Wichita scored one run in the top of the first inning, and the Monarchs scored three runs in the bottom of the frame when the game was stopped.

No makeup date has been announced.

The Monarchs, who were not scheduled to play on Tuesday, will be on the road Wednesday and Thursday night in Newton and Friday night in Derby.

The Monarchs host the Derby Twins on Saturday and the Kansas Cannons on Sunday.

Hutchinson Salthawks release 2025 football schedule

The Hutchinson High School Salthawk football team will open the 2025 season with two road games — Andover Central on Sept. 5 and Valley Center on Sept. 12.

The Salthawks released their 2025 schedule on their social media sites on Monday.

Hutchinson’s third and fourth games of the season will be home games against Maize (Sept. 19) and Salina South (Sept. 26).

Hutchinson plays at Class 6A powerhouse Derby on Oct. 3, followed by a home game Oct. 10 against Campus, a road game at Newton on Oct. 17 and a home game Oct. 24 against Maize South.

Mike Vernon will begin his eighth season as Hutchinson Salthawk head football coach and 13th season overall. His career record is 68-49.

The Salthawks posted an 8-3 record in 2024. Hutchinson lost to Kansas Class 5A state runner-up Hays High in the playoffs.

Buhler football team opens 2025 season at Mulvane

The Buhler High School football team, coming off a 9-3 season in 2024 (including a 5-0 league record and a first-place finish in Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division 3), will open the 205 season with a road game at Mulvane.

The Crusaders then host home games Sept. 12 and Sept. 19 against Augusta and Great Bend.

Buhler plays road games Sept. 26 and Oct. 3 at Circle and Wamego and hosts home games Oct. 10 and Oct. 17 against El Dorado and Winfield.

The Crusaders finish the regular season with a road game at McPherson.

Defending champion Blue Dragon football team opens season at NMMI

The Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragon football team opens defense of their NJCAA Division I championship against New Mexico Military Institute Saturday, Sept. 6, at Colt Field in Roswell, N.M. Kickoff is 1 p.m.

The Blue Dragons will play their first home game at noon Sept. 13 against Iowa Western Community College.

Buhler alums post 4.0 GPAs as members of KWU women’s soccer team

Buhler High School alums Ashlynn Adcock and Maylin Owen posted 4.0 averages while playing for the Kansas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team.

The Coyotes posted a 3.6 team grade point average with two 4.0 GPAs, eights 3.9 GPAs and seven GPAs over 3.5.

KWU is a member of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Several Hutchinson Tribune athletes were named to the Sport in Kansas 2025 All-State Softball Team.
