Krafels, Green, Pyle, Moddlemog will play in KBCA All-Star Games Saturday

The Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Girls and Boys All-Star Games will be played at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday at Kansas Wesleyan University’s Mable Arena.

Buhler High School graduate Natalya Krafels, a 5-foot-9 forward, is a member of the KBCA Girls Blue Team. She is headed to Grand Canyon University.

Andover’s Aliyah Green, a 6-1 post who played her first two seasons at Hutchinson High School, is a member of the Gold Team. She will play basketball at Butler Community College next year.

Two Hutchinson Community College signees are members of the KBCA Gold Boys Team. They are Gabe Pyle, 6-6 guard from McPherson, and Bear Moddlemog, a 6-4 guard from Moundridge.

Halstead High School boys basketball coach Derek Schutte will be the Gold Team girls head coach at the KBCA All-State Girls Basketball Game Saturday night.

Schutte, who guided Halstead to the Kansas Class 3A state tournament title in March, will be assisted by St. Thomas Aquinas’ Rick Hetzel.

The Blue Team Boys head coach is former Blue Dragon men’s coach Steve Eck, now the boys coach at Kapaun-Mount Carmel.

Eck will be assisted by HutchCC alum Kurt Kinnamon, now the boys coach at McPherson High School.

Admission is $5 for adults, free for children and is capped at $30 for families with six or more. There will be concessions available.

Ad Astra Radio honors Hutchinson’s Max Harris as Athlete of the Week

Ad Astra Radio is proud to announce Hutchinson High School sophomore Max Harris as this week’s Athlete of the Week.

Harris had a great performance in representing Team Kansas at the Cadet National Duals in Herriman, Utah.

Harris first went 6-0 in Greco-Roman in the 165-pound division, winning all six matches by fall or technical fall and landing on the all-tournament team.

Team Kansas finished 10th out of 32 states. Harris also went 2-2 in freestyle matches.

Harris, who also plays football, had a strong sophomore season for the Salthawks, winning more than 30 matches and finishing third at the Class 5A state meet at 157 pounds.
