The Hutchinson Monarchs bounced back from a 9-8 loss to the Derby Twins Sunday at Derby by defeating the Kingman Islanders 8-1 Monday night at Kingman’s Islander Field.
The Monarchs, now 10-2, were scheduled to host Kingman Tuesday, but severe weather forced the game to be canceled.
“Once it has been rescheduled, we will publish the new date,” said Monarchs’ general manager/owner Marc Blackim. “Stay safe, everyone.”
Hutchinson is scheduled to play the Junction City Brigade Wednesday at Hobart-Detter Field. First pitch is 7 p.m.
The Monarchs and Junction City Brigade play Friday at Junction City and Saturday against the Wichita Wildcats at Wichita.
In Sunday’s game, the Derby Twins scored six runs over the final three innings, including three in the ninth inning, as the Twins overcame a four-run deficit to beat the Monarchs.
The Monarchs ouhit Derby 13-9. Five Monarchs had two hits apiece, including Jeter Worthley, Drew Bugner, Tyson Vassart, Jake Knox and Caylin Grimes. Knox also drove in four runs.
The Monarchs led 7-3 after scoring two runs in the top of the seventh inning, but the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead against Derby.
A two-out, two-run single off Hutchinson pitcher Russell Copous drove in the tying and winning runs for Derby.
