Hutchinson Monarchs suffer first loss of the season

The Hutchinson Monarchs lost 6-5 to the Haysville Aviators Tuesday night at Plagens-Carpenter Park in Haysville.

The Monarchs played the Aviators Wednesday night in Haysville.

The Monarchs (6-1) outhit the Aviators 10-7. The Aviators (6-2) capitalized on a wild fifth inning and a critical home run to secure the win at home.

Hutchinson finished with 10 hits and no errors. Haysville managed seven hits and committed one error.

Haysville’s starting pitcher Cooper Senne earned the win. Hutchinson’s starting pitcher Cole Toureau took the loss.

The Monarchs struck first in the top of the fourth with back-to-back RBI singles from Jace Legg and Bryson Bradford to tie the game at 2-2.

However, the Aviators responded with a four-run bottom half, highlighted by a two-run double from Owen Rush and a wild pitch that allowed Cale Ortner to score.

Hutchinson clawed back in the fifth inning with a two-run single by Legg, bringing the Monarchs within one. But in the bottom of the fifth, Quincy Groebl extended the Aviators’ lead to 6-4 with a solo home run to left field.

Bradford later scored on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth to make it a one-run game, and Kade Demmer followed with a double, but the Monarchs could not score the tying run.

Eight area softball players named to KSCA All-State Team

Eight Hutchinson-area players were named to the Kansas Softball Coaches Association 2025 All-State Team released on Tuesday.

Hutchinson Trinity Catholic High School senior pitcher Addison Crockett was named to the First Team in Class 2-1A.

Inman High School, which placed second in the Kansas Class 2-1A state tournament, placed sophomore pitcher Lyla Levin, freshman catcher Maddi Parsons and sophomore infielder Taylor Froese on the Second Team.

Haven senior catcher Sophie Faidley, junior infielder Morgan O’Neal and junior outfielder Mayzie Warden were named to the First Team in Class 3A. Junior pitcher Avery Brawner was named Honorable Mention.

Pretty Prairie Rodeo includes Rodeo Run

The 2025 Pretty Prairie Rodeo is scheduled for July 16-19.
