Hutchinson Monarchs improve record to 5-0

The Hutchinson Monarchs came from behind to defeat the Kansas Cannons 14-4  in a Jayhawk Collegiate League game Friday night at Rodney Wheeler Stadium in Augusta.

The Monarchs improved to 5-0.

In Friday’s game, Hutchinson trailed 4-2 entering the top of the eighth inning. The Monarchs scored 12 runs on four hits in the inning (including a grand slam) to take an 14-4 lead.

The Hutchinson Monarchs shut out the Cannons 2-0 in a JCL game Thursday night at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson’s Carey Park.

In Thursday’s victory, Hutchinson’s Blake Bradford belted a solo home run to center field for a 1-0 lead.

Hutchinson’s second run came in the eighth when Jarrett Herrmann scored on an RBI single by Drew Bugner.

The Hutchinson Monarchs’ starting pitcher Thursday was Lachlan Rosser. Brayden McClure pitched four shutout innings and recorded five strikeouts. Cason Gonzalez also kept the Cannons off the board.

Hutchinson’s Mitchell Johnson stuck out the side in the top of the ninth inning to earn the save.

Kansas Cannons’ pitcher Blake Seefeldt took the loss.

Hutchinson hosts the Wichita Black Sox Monday and the Haysville Aviators on Tuesday. The Monarchs play at Haysville on Wednesday.

Hutchinson has two games against the Great Bend Bat Cats (June 13 at Hobart-Detter Field and June 14 at Great Bend’s Al Burns Stadium).

The Hutchinson-Derby game that was rescheduled twice because of rain will be rescheduled again for June 15 at Derby.
