The Hutchinson Monarchs have started the season by taking two games from the Newton Rebels at Hobart-Detter Field.
The Monarchs defeated the Rebels 4-3 on Friday night and 13-2 Saturday night.
In Saturday’s game, the Monarchs led 8-1 after two innings. Newton scored one run in the top of the third inning to cut the lead to 8-2.
Blake Bradford and Drew Bugner both had RBI singles in the bottom of the third inning to push the Monarchs’ lead to 10-2. Hutchinson added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 13-2.
Lachlan Rosser, Hutchinson Community College pitcher from Australia, got the victory in relief.
The Monarchs host the Derby Twins in Monday, then play at Derby on Tuesday. Thursday, the Monarchs host the Kansas Cannons and play the Cannons at Augusta on Friday.
In 17 summers, the Hutchinson Monarchs have drawn 80,423 fans to Hobart-Detter Field. The Monarchs passed the 80K mark Friday night when they drew 485 fans to the game against the Newton Rebels.
61 drivers compete in Salt City Racing Friday night on Fairgrounds track
Stock cars, super stocks and sprint cars took center stage Friday night’s Salt City Racing events at the Kansas State Fairgrounds track.
There were 61 total entries (22 IMCA Stock Cars, 7 Super Stocks and 32 in 360 Sprints Winged) for APAC Presents ASCS National Sprint Car Tour.

Hutchinson Trinity, Inman softball players recognized on HOA team
Four Hutchinson Trinity Catholic High School players were recognized on the Heart of America League Team.
First Team selections include pitcher Drew Dechant and Jeremy Gentry. Kaid McElgunn and Sam Vogel were named Second Team.
McElgunn also competes on the Celtic track team competing at the state meet in Wichita this weekend.
Four Inman baseball players made the all-HOA team: Dylan Larson, first team second base; Korbyn McClellan, first team outfield; Caleb Bigler, second team shortstop; and Dalton Priddy, honorable mention pitcher.
Hutchinson Trinity senior Addison Crockett was named First Team utility player and senior Mattie Galliher was named Second Team outfielder.
Buhler’s Sammie Brooks named MVP on AVCTL 3 All-League Girls Soccer Team
Buhler High School goalkeeper Sammie Brooks was named the Most Valuable Player and received First Team honors on the Ark Valley Chisholm League All-League Girls Soccer Team.
Brooks was joined on the First Team by Buhler defender Ashlyn Coker.
Buhler Second Team honorees are defender Taylin Krafels, midfielders Madi McCool and Juliette Shank and forward Mikaela Jarrett.
Buhler Honorable Mention honors went to defender Kenzie Polk, midfielder Lakin Yoder and forward Alyssa Berner.
