Three dogs die in Thursday evening fire

CAPTION: CREDIT HUTCHINSON FIRE DEPARTMENT

Three dogs died in a house fire Thursday evening, according to the Hutchinson Fire Department in a Friday morning press release.

While en route, it was reported that the occupants were not in the house, but several dogs were still in the structure. First arriving crews found a small single-family residence with smoke coming from the front door and fire coming from the rear of the residence.

Crews initiated an aggressive fire attack through the front door and started a search for other possible occupants and the pets. Rural water supply operations were initiated due to the location of the fire being in a non-hydrated area.

A quick knockdown of the fire occurred, and the 3 dogs were removed. Special lifesaving equipment for small animals was utilized by on-scene crews, but all 3 dogs succumbed to their injuries.

No injuries have been reported. One occupant received assistance from the American Red Cross, the home experienced severe smoke and fire damage throughout.  At this time, the fire is still under investigation by the Hutchinson Fire Department’s Fire Marshals office.
