The Hutchinson Central Christian High School boys golf team won the Kansas Class 1A state championship over South Gray by 12 strokes.
The 1A state championship was played Tuesday and Wednesday at Dodge City’s par-70 Mariah Hills Golf Course.
Central Christian posted a 633 score, followed by South Gray 650 and Elkhart 663.
Central Christian senior Ryland Kooiman tied for third with a 148 score (73-75), followed by sophomore Cael Kooiman, seventh, 150 (77-73); senior Nathan Reed, tied for eighth, 159 (82-77); sophomore Tyler Reed, tied for 24th, 176 (86-90); senior Brody Froese, tied for 51st, 220 (118-102); and senior Terren Scripsick, 53rd, 228 (116-112).
South Gray’s Gavin Wahl captured the Class 1A individual state championship with a 4-under-par score of 136 (68-68).
In the Class 4A boys state golf tournament Tuesday and Wednesday at Newton’s par-72 Sand Creek Station Golf Course, the Buhler Crusaders placed fourth with a 621 score.
Butler senior Drew DeMeyer placed eighth with a 155 (77-78); followed by sophomore Zach Chance, tied for 16th, 161 (80-81); sophomore Nick Chance, tied for 40th, 170 (82-88); junior Isaiah Heredia, tied for 49th, 187 (102-85); senior Jace Heimerman, tied for 53rd, 195 (93-102); senior James Dingler, 54th, 212 (96-116).
Independence’s Ethan Small fired a 2-under-par 142 (69-73) to win the state title by one stroke over Wamego’s Regan Kusler at 143 (70-73). Topeka Hayden won the 4A state team championship.
Hutchinson High School senior Mitchell Rice and sophomore Alex Haas competed on the first day of the Kansas Class 5A boys state golf tournament Monday at Emporia Municipal Golf Course, but did not qualify for the second round.
Rice shot a 12-over-par 83 to finish 71st on the first day and Haas shot a 20-over-par 91 to finish 87th. Neither qualified for the second round of play Wednesday.
In the Class 2A state tournament at McPherson’s Turkey Creek Golf Course, Hutchinson Trinity Catholic was in seventh place after the first round with a 340 team score, but did not qualify enough golfers to compete for a team title on the second day.
Hutchinson Trinity sophomore Tyler Casebolt tied for 14th place and earned a medal with a 161 score (82-79). Sophomore Miles Blalock tied for 24th with an 165 score (81-84) with senior teammate Lincoln Barnes (84-82).
Trinity freshman Ian Shaw (93), junior Seamus Hogan (94) and junior Matt Armour (99) did not qualify for the second round.
Sterling High School sophomore Cameron Morris tied for 18th overall with a 163 score (84-79).
Salina Sacred Heart won the team title with a 20-over-par 300 score. Hoxie’s Noah Dowell fired an even-par 140 (68-72) to win the individual state championship.
In the Class 3A state golf tournament, at Garden City’s Buffalo Dunes, Halstead junior Maxx Linton fired a 101 and did not qualify for Round 2.
Wichita Collegiate edged out Sabetha by one stroke and Wichita Trinity Academy by four strokes to win the Class 3A team title. Hesston’s Grant Waterson won the first-place individual medal in Class 3A with a 147 score (71-76).
Shawnee Mission East High School won the Class 6A state golf title for the second time in three years. Blue Valley North’s Brady Rapp won first-place individual honors.
The top 20 golfers in each class earn medals.
