City young coloring contest due May 30

Hutchinson’s aspiring young artists can compete in the City of Hutchinson’s first coloring contest.

Finished pieces are due at Hutchinson City Hall, located at 125 East Ave. B, on May 30.

Public Communications Manager of the City, Jessica Woodyard, said the idea came from the City’s Public Arts and Design Council.

“They have an advocacy portion that they do, and they wanted to get kids involved in coloring and art as it becomes summertime,” Woodyard said. “This was all their idea, and bringing awareness of art in an accessible way to the youth in our community.”

The contest has three age groups for artists to be in: 1-5 years old, 6-11 years old and 12-18 years old.

“Our council will be judging them on Tuesday at city council,” Woodyard said. “There will be three different winners, one from each age category, and we will also be announcing those prizes.”

Coloring pages for the contest can be picked up at the Hutch Rec office, located at 17 East 1st Ave., or the Hutchinson Public Library, located at 901 North Main St. Photos can also be downloaded digitally and printed from the City of Hutchinson’s Facebook page here.

“It was a really good opportunity for our council to get involved and make it a community event,” Woodyard said.
