Party for Plevna Friday

CAPTION: CREDIT UNITED WAY RENO COUNTY

By Michael Glenn

Two local collaborators are hosting an event on Friday to benefit recovery efforts for residents in Plevna following an EF-3 tornado that impacted the town May 18.

The Party for Plevna will take place Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Sandhills Brewing, 111 West 2nd Ave. in Hutchinson.

Pippin Williamson, owner of Sandhills Brewery’s Hutchinson taproom, said the United Way contacted him about doing an event to raise funds for those affected by the tornado. Williamson said the event will have plenty for those who want to give to the cause.

“We put it together with quick notice,” Williamson said. “Absolutely everyone is invited and welcome. You don’t have to be a beer fan to show up. It’s to help the people that were affected and the tornado in Plevna.”

Sandhills will feature a live band, Bluez Warning, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and a food truck beginning at 5 p.m. Williamson said Sandhills will donate $2 for every adult beverage sold that evening.

If you want to help the tornado victims but cannot attend the event, there’s an online option available here. The total goal for the tornado relief fund is $250,000.

“Any amount is impactful, whether it’s a dollar or hundreds of dollars,” Williamson said. “Hutch has been a strong community for everyone in need.”
