Those considering running for local public office this November must turn in their applications by noon next Monday, June 2.
Candidates for many local offices have already declared their intent to run, including candidates for Hutchinson City Council, the Hutchinson USD 308 Board of Education and the Hutchinson Community College Board of Trustees.
Three seats for the city council are up for election this year: the Southwest District, Northwest District and the At-large position.
Incumbent councilmembers Greg Fast, Jon Richardson and Mayor Stacy Goss currently hold the southwest, northwest and at-large seats, respectively. Fast has refiled for the southwest district, with Goss filing for election for the northwest seat.
Kaden Winters filed for the southwest district, challenging Fast. Goss currently has no opponents in the northwest district. Carlton “Duke” Devaul and Darrin Truan have filed for the At-large position.
The at-large seat serves for two years, while the district positions serve for four-year terms, according to the City of Hutchinson’s website. The council selects a mayor and vice mayor from one of their own to serve a one-year term.
USD 308 has three board member positions open for election, all at-large positions. Jeff Roberson and Kenneth Nisly are the only candidates who have filed as of May 26. USD 308 board members serve four-year terms.
The Hutchinson Community College Board of Trustees will also have three seats open for election. Three incumbent candidates, Rodney Calhoun, Jan Young and Todd Miller, have filed for reelection to the board.
