Junior Rhyan Galyon tied a Hutchinson High School girls soccer team record with six goals and lifted the Salthawks past Goddard 7-2 in a Kansas Class 5A West #3 regional Tuesday night at the Salthawk Soccer Complex.
Hutchinson led at halftime 4-2.
Salthawks’ senior Lily Rodriguez scored one goal and assisted Galyon three times. Kate Jackson, Alayniah Johnson and Breckyn Edwards each contributed one assist.
“This game meant a lot to our girls — it’s the first regional match we’ve won in several seasons,” said Hutchinson girls soccer coach Jordan Proffitt. “The girls came out ready to play, scoring just 5 minutes into the match. We had multiple players contributing assists, with Rhyan Galyon netting 6 of our 7 goals.
“Rhyan tied the school record for goals scored in a single game with six. Her speed up top creates problems for every opponent we face. We successfully threaded the ball to her on several occasions, resulting in decisive finishes. Lily Rodriguez assisted Rhyan three times, bringing her total for the season to 12 assists so far.”
The Salthawks (11-6) will play Maize South (15-2) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Maize South.
“On Thursday, we will face a strong Maize South team for the regional championship,” Proffitt said. “We are eager for the challenge and are determined to give it our all. The girls are prepared to battle for the regional championship on Thursday.”
