Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragon golfer Charlie Box captured the 2025 NJCAA Division I Golf Championship with a one-stroke victory on Friday at Sand Creek Station in Newton.
Box posted a four-day, 3-under-par score of 283 (70-68-71-73). He is the second Blue Dragon to capture an individual national championship in program history.
Box led the Blue Dragon golfers to a fourth-place team finish with an 1179 score (285-295-293-306).
Hutchinson’s Tyler Walker tied for 20th with a 294 score (71-72-72-79), followed by Corey Scullion tied for 43rd at 302 (70-76-77-79), Jack Northgraves tied for 56th at 305 (76-79-75-75) and Louis Ross at 310 (74-78-75-83).
Midland won the national championship with an 1158 score, followed by Odessa, Texas, 1165 and Indian Hills, Iowa, CC 1173.
Dodge City placed seventh at 1192 and Garden City 16th at 1213.

Salthawk varsity soccer teams split with Campus
The Hutchinson High School varsity soccer teams needed overtime to beat Campus/Clearwater Thursday at Campus Colt Stadium in Haysville.
The Hutchinson varsity defeated Campus/Clearwater 3-2 in overtime after the score was tied 1-1 at halftime.
The Salthawks improved to 9-6 and the Colts fell to 6-10.
The Hutchinson JV team lost to Campus 1-0.
The Salthawk varsity squad will find out Saturday where they are seeded in the Kansas Class 5A West regional.
Buhler soccer team shuts out Salina Central
The Buhler High School varsity soccer team shut out Salina Central 1-0 Thursday night.
Buhler improved to 11-5. Salina Central dropped to 1-15-1.
The Crusader varsity squad will find out Saturday where they are seeded in the Kansas Class 4-1A West regional.
Season ends for Haven, CSA Reds baseball teams at 3A regional
The baseball season came to end for the Haven Wildcats and the Central State Academy Reds with losses in the first round of the Kansas Class 3A regional at the Wichita Trinity Academy.
Haven lost to Wichita Collegiate 8-4 at Haven and the CSA Reds lost to Cheney 13-0 at Cheney. Haven finished the season with a 16-9 record and the CSA Reds finished the season with a 7-15 record.
No. 1 seed Wichita Trinity Academy (20-5) defeated Belle Plaine (0-22) 13-0 Thursday at Trinity Academy.
No. 4 Kingman/Norwich (15-10) defeated Chaparral (11-9) 4-2 Thursday at Kingman.
In the semifinals Tuesday, Trinity Academy plays Kingman/Norwich at noon and Cheney (18-5) plays Wichita Collegiate (12-11) 25 minutes after the conclusion of the first semifinal.
The semifinal winners play for the championship 25 minutes after the end of the second semifinal game.
Regional winners will advance to the Kansas Class 3A state baseball tournament May 29-30 at Kansas State University’s Tointon Family Stadium in Manhattan.
Inman girls 1st, Trinity boys 4th at Heart of America League track meet
The Inman High School girls and Moundridge boys won the Heart of America League track meet championships Tuesday at Sterling College.
In the boys competition, Hutchinson Trinity placed fourth, Inman eighth and Sterling 10th.
In the girls competition, Sterling placed ninth and Hutchinson Trinity 10th.
First-place area girls winners: Inman’s Katie Nichols, high jump, 4-10 and long jump, 17-2 1/2; Inman’s Taylor Froese, discus, 121-4; Sterling’s Julia Kilgore, 200-meter dash, 25.86, and 400, 57.12; Inman’s Suttyn Harris, shot put, 36-0 (Froese was second at 35-10 1.2).

Hutchinson Central Christian girls 1st, boys 2nd at Heart of the Plains track meet
The Hutchinson Central Christian High School girls placed first and the Cougar boys placed second at the Heart of the Plains League track meet Thursday.
The meet was hosted by South Barber High School in Kiowa. The high school league meet and the HOPL middle school/junior high league meet took place.
Central Christian won the high school girls competition with 123 points. Pretty Prairie was second with 108.5, Cunningham fifth with 51 and Fairfield seventh with 31.
Cunningham won the high school boys team title with 138 points. Central Christian scored 85 points. Fairfield placed seventh with 35 points, Burrton was eighth with 22 points and Pretty Prairie was 10th 8 points.
Placing first in high school girls: Central Christian’s Jessa Losew, 400-meter dash, 59.76, high jump, 5-8; triple jump, 37-5 1/4; Hutchinson Central Christian’s Addi Loudenback, 100-meter hurdles, 17.42, and 300-meter hurdles 49.45; Hutchinson Central Christiian girls 4×400-meter relay, 4:20.77; Burrton’s Morgan Koehn, discus, 74-4, and shot put, 33-2 1/4; Pretty Prairie 4×200-meter relay team, 2:11.86, and 4×800-meter relay team. 10:37.52.

Nickerson, Halstead girls, boys compete at CKL meet
Nickerson High School hosted the Central Kansas League track meet Thursday.
Nickerson placed seventh in the boys competition with 36 points, Halstead placed eighth with 29 points and Haven ninth with 13.5 points.
Halstead placed third in the girls division with 83.5 points, Haven was fifth with 57 and Nickerson sixth with 49.
Smoky Valley won the girls league championship with 160 points. It is the Vikings’ seventh straight league track title. Hesston was second with 153.5.
Pratt won the boys title with 180 points, followed by Hesston with 153.5.

Little River girls, boys place 2nd at WSL meet
Little River High School’s Kal-El Robinson broke the Wheat State League track meet boys 100-meter dash time with a time of 11.26 seconds Thursday night. Teammate Tristan Bristow was a close second at 11.3.
The WSL meet was hosted by Rural Vista High School at the Herington High School track.
Little River brought home second-place finishes in the girls and boys team standings. The boys scored 134 points and the girls scored 84 points.
Goessel won the girls team title with 143 points and Rural Vista won the boys team title with 149 points.
First-place finishes for the Little River girls: Havana Olander, triple jump, 36-10 1/2; 4×100-meter relay. 53.18; and Abby Schroeder, 800, 2:36.03.
First-place finishes for the Little River boys: Christopher Norez, javelin, 166-5; 4×100-meter relay, 45.04; and Logan Schubert, long jump, 191-0; Jay Smith 100-meter wheelchair race, 21.8, and 400-meter wheelchair race, 1:37.82.
