The Hutchinson High School Salthawks varsity and junior varsity girls soccer teams took on Salina South Tuesday night at the Salthawk Soccer Complex.
The Hutchinson varsity (9-6) blasted the Cougars 5-1. Hutchinson led Salina South (8-7) at halftime 1-0 and scored four goals in the second half.
The Salthawk JV soccer team tied Salina South 2-2. The Cougars led at halftime 2-1.
Hutchinson plays at Haysville Thursday against Campus/Clearwater.
Hutchinson and Salina South open Class 5A West regional play next Monday and Tuesday. Seedings will be announced on Saturday.
Buhler boys golf team 2nd at AVCTL D3 tournament
The Buhler High School boys golf team placed second at the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division 3 tournament Tuesday at the par-71 Derby Golf and Country Club.
Towanda-Circle edged Buhler 327-329 for the league championship. McPherson placed third at 343, followed by Augusta 344, Winfield 349 and Mulvane 350.
Buhler’s Zach Chance placed second with 7-over-par 78 as did Circle’s Anderson Helmer. McPherson’s Cole Cooper placed first with a 76.
Buhler’s Drew DeMeyer tied for fourth place with a 79, followed by Nick Chance and Isaiah Heredia, tied for 13th, 86; Jace Heimerman, tied for 21st, 90; and James Dingler, tied for 29th, 96.
The Buhler Crusader boys golf team competes Monday at the Class 4A Regional, hosted by McPherson at Turkey Creek Golf Course.
Other schools competing are McPherson, Abilene, Clay Center, Clearwater, Concordia, Hugoton, Pratt and Ulysses.
The top three teams from each regional tournament and the next five individual scores not on a qualifying team (plus ties) qualify for the Class 4A state tournament May 27-28 at Newton’s Sand Creek Station Golf Course.

Buhler softball team swept by McPherson
The Buhler High School softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader Tuesday night at McPherson.
McPherson won the first game 12-1 and the second game 7-2.
Buhler dropped to 17-9 and No. 1 McPherson improved to 26-0.
Both teams will compete in the Class 4A softball regional May 19-22, hosted by Clearwater.
Seedings for Classes 6A, 5A and 4-1A regionals will be announced on Saturday.
The Class 4A state softball tournament will be played May 29-30 at Salina South High School.
Buhler baseball team drops two to McPherson
The Buhler High School baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader Tuesday night at McPherson.
McPherson won the first game 7-1 and the second game 10-0. McPherson improved to 22-3 and Buhler dropped to 17-9.
Both teams will compete in the Class 4A baseball regional May 19-22, hosted by Clearwater.
Seedings for Classes 6A, 5A and 4-1A regionals will be announced on Saturday.
The Class 4A state baseball tournament will be played May 29-30 at Dean Evans Stadium in Salina.
Inman softball team sweeps Sedgwick
The Inman High School softball team swept a Senior Night doubleheader from Sedgwick Tuesday at Inman.
The Teutons won the first game 10-1 and rallied to win the second game 10-6.
Inman seniors Brooke Aden and Olivia Bradley were recognized.
Buhler girls soccer team sweeps Wichita Classical
The Buhler High School varsity and junior varsity girls soccer teams posted shutouts over Classical School of Wichita Monday night at Crusader Field.
The Buhler varsity (10-5) defeated Wichita Classical 1-0 and recorded another clean sheet. Madi McCool scored the goal.
“Good work by Sammie Brooks (goalkeeper) and the defense,” said Buhler coach Randal Rank. “It was their eighth clean sheet of the season.”
The Buhler JV team won 2-0. Zoey Dick scored the first goal on an assist by Bella Morones. Kennedee Applegate scored the second goal on an assist by Kylie Gregg.
“Abigail Cummins and Rorey Waldren (goalkeepers) held down the fort in goal,” Rank said.
The Buhler varsity and JV teams will each have one more regular season match on Thursday at home. The JV will play the Wichita Defenders.
The varsity team will honor 10 seniors on Senior Night against Salina Central — Nicole Anselmo, Alyssa Berner, Sammie Brooks, Ashlyn Coker, Mikaela Jarrett, Natalya Kafels, Sydney Lehl, Juliette Shank, Claudia Taylor, Elena Williams,
Buhler will compete in the Kansas Class 4-1A West soccer regional, hosted by Wichita Northwest.
