The Hutchinson Blue Dragons captured the men’s team title at the Region 6 Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday and the Hutchinson Blue Dragon women placed third.
The Region 6 Outdoor Track and Field Championhips took place at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Coffeyville and was hosted by Coffeyville Community College.
The Hutchinson Blue Dragon men edged out Barton Community College 135-127 to win the Region 6 men’s championship for the first time since 2013. Coffeyville finished third with 84.
The Blue Dragon men completed the Region 6 Triple Crown, winning championships in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.
Cloud County is the women’s champion with 197 points, and Barton CC placed second with 122 points. The Hutchinson Blue Dragons women scored 95 points for third place.
The NJCAA Outdoor Championships will take place May 15-17 at Gowans Stadium on the Hutchinson CC campus.

Top performances turned in by the Blue Dragons:
• Kebba Makalo finished first in the men’s 100-meter dash with a time of 10.06 seconds. It is now the second-fastest time in the NJCAA this year.
• Blue Dragon sophomore Ty’Rique Roland won the men’s high jump with a height of 6-9 1/2.
• Hutchinson’s Leo LeGrand is the Region 6 champion in the men’s 800-meter run.
• Blue Dragon sophomore David Thid won the men’s 400-meter hurdles with a facility-record time of 51.91 seconds.
• Titus Kiprotich and Cornelius Kogo were part of an impressive 10,000-meter field. The top seven runners broke the Veterans Memorial Stadium facility record on Friday.
Kiprotich and Kogo also became Hutchinson’s 22nd and 23rd national qualifiers.
Kiprotich broke his own 10,000-meter school record with an event runner-up time of 30:27.83. That surpassed his original record set at last year’s NJCAA Championships in Monroe, La., by 6 1/2 seconds.
Kogo finished third with a national qualifying time of 20:55.96, the third-fastest time in Blue Dragon history. HutchCC’s David Ultreras placed ninth with a personal-record time of 33:41.91.
Kogo also placed third in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal-record time of 9:23.51. Ultreras placed 10th with a time of 10:37.95.
• Deisheline Mayer Scott finished as runner-up in the women’s javelin with a runner-up finish of 151 feet (46.02 meters). That is the second-best mark in Blue Dragon history. Mayer Scott is now the 10th qualifier for the Blue Dragon women for the upcoming NJCAA Outdoor National Championship.
Scott and Aiyanna Green placed second and fourth in the women’s shot put with efforts of 43-5 1/4 and 39-10. Green finished eighth in the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 139-8.
• Azariah Dawes finished second in the women’s long jump with a PR of 17-10 3/4 (5.45 meters). Yaya Moreno was ninth with a jump of 16-11 1/4 (5.16 meters).
• Moreno and Alycea McCoy placed third and fourth in the women’s triple jump with efforts of 36-2 1/4 and 35-10 3/4.
• Jordyn Picolet was the regional runner-up at 10,000 meters with a time of 41.12.68. Laura Avila was third with a PR time of 41:21.15, which is the fourth-fastest time in the 10,000 meters in Blue Dragon history.
Picolet also placed fourth in the women’s 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:55.67.
• Sophomore Abigail Grantham placed third in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase with a national qualifying time of 11:59.01.
• Seeded seventh, the Blue Dragon women’s 4×800 relay team finished third on Friday. The relay team of Grantham, Ava Lemaster, Rio Kerven and Picolet posted the fourth-best time in Blue Dragon history of 9:56.70.
• Hutchinson’s Da’Shawn Lester, Rickyle Telmaque and Lausanne Blake placed 3-6-19 in the men’s 400-meter dash with times of 47.54, 48.45 and 50.05.
• Hutchinson’s Jayce Spencer placed third in the men’s pole vault, clearing the bar at 13-11 3/4.
• The Blue Dragon men’s 4×800 relay team of Farrin Mangelson, Kiprotich, LeGrand and Kogo placed fourth with a time of 7:51.48, just missing the automatic qualifying mark by .46 seconds.
• Elisha Williams placed fifth in the men’s javelin with a throw of 167 feet, 8 inches (51.12 meters). Taylor Zehr was eighth at 151-8 (40.23 meters).
• Malique Parkinson placed fifth in the long jump with a lead of 22-5 3/4 (6.85 meters).
• Hutchinson’s Alycea McCoy and Grace Bendeer placed fifth and seventh in the women’s pole vault, clearing 9-10 1/2 and 9-4 1/2.
• Hutchinson’s Gracy Bare, Karson Engelland and Andrew Hildebrand placed 5-7-13 in the men’s shot put with marks of 48-2, 46-6 1/4 and 43-1.
• Hutchinson’s Taylor Zehr placed sixth in the men’s hammer throw with a mark of 155-4.
• In the relays, the Hutchinson men’s 4×400-meter relay team placed second (facility record 3:09.52), the men’s 4×100 relay placed third (40.54), the women’s 4×800 relay placed third (9:56.7), the men’s 4×800 relay placed fourth (7:51.48), the women’s 4×100 relay placed fifth (48.18) and the women’s 4×400-meter relay team placed fifth (4:07.3).

Season ends for Blue Dragon softball team with loss to Butler Grizzlies at Region 6 tournament
The season came to an end for Hutchinson Community College softball team with an 8-3 loss to Butler Community College in a second-round elimination game the Region 6 softball tournament Saturday night at Legends Park in Dodge City.
The Blue Dragons, last year’s Region 6 tournament champion, finished the season with a 37-11 record. Butler improved to 41-7.
The Butler Grizzlies got on the scoreboard first on a two-run homer by Kyler Demel in the bottom of the third inning and a solo homer by Kylie Forney in the fourth for a 3-0 lead.
Forney added two more RBIs on a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Hutchinson scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Golly belted a two-run homer and Brawner had an RBI single.
The Grizzlies scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on two Blue Dragon throwing errors to make the score 8-3.
Hutchinson did not score in thhe top of the seventh inning.
Both teams finished with six hits and errors. Kaibryn Kruger and Golly each had two hits for the Blue Dragons. Golly had two RBIs and Brawner one. Kaibryn Kruger, Golly and Brooke Backhaus each scored one run.
Tomlinson, who got the win in the first game, took the loss in the second game and finished the season with a 21-7 record. Tomlinson and Jessica Schmidt each pitched three innings for the Blue Dragons.
Hutchinson stayed alive in the Region 6 Tournament by defeating Dodge City 4-3 in an elimination game Saturday afternoon.
Aubree Thomas, who pitched a three-hit shutout in Hutchinson’s 1-0 over Seward County in the first round Friday afternoon, got the start against Dodge City. Tomlinson pitched in relief and got the victory.
Hutchinson scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning against Dodge City to take a 2-0 lead. Tailor Golly singled in the first run and Brie Brawner’s fielder’s choice scored the second run.
In the bottom of the third inning, Hutchinson’s Kaibryn Kruger singled home Bailey Backhaus to push the Blue Dragons’ lead to 3-0.
Dodge City tied the game 3-3 with three runs in the top of the third inning. Hutchinson hit three hard-hit balls into outs in the bottom of the third.
In the top of the fourth inning, Kaibryn Kruger chased down a potential RBI single in right center field for the final out of a scoreless top of the fourth inning for Dodge City.
Dice got a two-out single through the right side of the infield but the Blue Dragons were held scoreless in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Tomlinson allowed a leadoff single in the top of the fifth inning but kept the Conquistadors off the scoreboard.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Brawner’s sacrifice fly to center field scored Golly to give the Blue Dragons a 4-3 lead.
Tomlinson retired the Conquistadors in the sixth and seventh innings for the 4-3 victory.
Hutchinson scored its four runs on six hits. Dodge City, which finished the season with a 27-28 record, collected eight hits. Both teams committed one error.
Tomlinson pitched five innings in relief of Thomas. She walked one and struck out six. In two innings, Thomas allowed three runs (two earned, struck out one walked none.
Golly and Dice combined for four of Hutchinson’s six hits. Brawner had two RBIs. Golly scored two of Hutchinson’s four runs.
Elly Tancayo had three hits for Dodge City and Kloe Nelson two.
Jordyn Boxberger and Shyann Clark pitched for the Conquistadors, with Boxberger (5-8) taking the loss.
Hutchinson CC baseball team sweeps Pratt in final doubleheader of regular season
The Hutchinson Community College baseball team swept a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Pratt in the final games of the 2025 regular season for both teams.
The Blue Dragons defeated the Beavers 7-3 in the first game and 9-4 in the second game. Hutchinson went 3-1 against Pratt Thursday and Saturday to win the series.
Hutchinson is 37-19 overall and placed third in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference with a 19-14 league record. Hutchinson was 13-11 in away games.
Pratt finished the regular season with a 13-41 overall record (6-26 KJCCC play).
Official pairings for the Region 6 Tournament will be released on Sunday.
Hutchinson took a 4-0 leading the top of the third inning. Quinn Maher hit a two-run single and Taber Stokes belted a two-run homer.
Pratt did not score in the bottom of the fourth and Hutchinson went scoreless in the top of the fifth.
In the top of the sixth inning, Hutchinson’s C.J. Reid singled home Cael Hamrick to give the Blue Dragons a 5-0 lead. Pratt scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut Hutchinson’s lead to 5-3.
Hutchinson’s A.J. Mustow led off the top of the seventh inning with a solo home run to center field to give the Blue Dragons a 6-3 lead. The Blue Dragons added an insurance run when Nick Glantz scored on a wild pitch to make the final score 7-3.
In the top of the first inning in Game 2, Hutchinson’s C.J. Reid scored on a double-steal attempt, giving the Blue Dragons a 1-0 lead over Pratt.
Hutchinson plated four runs in the top of the third and three in the fourth to lead the Beavers 8-0.
In the third inning, Stokes scored on an error, Reid had an RBI fielder’s choice and Scotty Fegen had a two-run single. In the fourth, Mustow and Glantz had RBI singles and Mazza scored on a wild pitch.
Pratt put an end to the Blue Dragons’ shutout bid with a single tally in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 8-1.
HutchCC went ahead 9-1 in the top of the seventh when Leo Griffin scored on a Stokes groundout.
Pratt scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and one in the eighth to cut the Blue Dragons’ lead to 9-4.
