Hutchinson Salthawk baseball team swept by Campus Colts

The Hutchinson High School baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader against  Haysville-Campus Tuesday night at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson’s Carey Park.

Campus won the opener 7-6 and the second game 4-0.

In the opener, Hutchinson (8-7) put the tying run on third base and the winning run on second. However, the Salthawks could not push the runs across the plate.

Hutchinson scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, Campus scored six runs in the top the third inning.

In Game 2, Salthawks’ third baseman Ju Ju Lyons broke up Campus starting pitcher Harken Warkins’ bid for a no-hitter in the fifth inning. Caiden Beavers got Hutchinson’s other hit.

Hutchinson plays a doubleheader against Salina South Friday at Dean Evans Stadium in Salina.

Weather cancelations, postponements

• The Ellinwood Invitational boys tennis tournament was postponed from Thursday to Monday because of rain. Hutchinson Trinity and Fairfield were scheduled to compete.

• The Sedgwick Junior High School track meet scheduled for Thursday was canceled because of rain. Hutchinson Trinity was one of the schools slated to compete.

• The Andover Central JV track meet scheduled for Thursday was canceled because of rain. Buhler was one of the schools slated to compete.

• The Valley Center Junior High Invitational golf tournament originally slated for Thursday was canceled because of weather and will not be made up. Buhler was one of the schools scheduled to compete.

• The Buhler-Mulvane baseball and softball games at Mulvane Thursday were postponed because of rain.

• The Haven-Nickerson JV baseball game scheduled for Thursday at Nickerson was canceled because of field conditions.

Buhler girls soccer team shuts out Winfield 7-0

Two days after a 7-0 loss at Rose Hill, the Buhler High School girls soccer team posted a 7-0 shutout against Winfield Thursday night at Crusader Stadium.

Buhler improved to 7-4. Winfield fell to 0-11-1.

The Crusaders play Circle Monday night at Towanda.

Trinity golfers dominate Hesston JV Invitational

The Hutchinson Trinity Catholic boys golf team dominated the Hesston Junior Varsity Invitational Thursday at the par-71 Hesston Golf Golf Course.

Trinity golfers placed first, second, third, fourth and a fifth-place tie and posted a 314 score.

Trinity’s Miles Blaylock placed first with a 72, Lincoln Barnes was second with a 77, Ian Shaw was third with an 82, Tyler Casebolt was fourth with an 83 and Matt Armour tied for fifth with an 84.

Trinity’s Seamus Hogan placed 13th with an 88.

Wichita Heights placed second with a 358 score, followed by Hesston 359, Circle 362, Great Bend 377, Hoisington 389, Wellington 401, St. John 408, Hillsboro 409, Cheney 424, Sterling 483 and Sedgwick 490.

Sterling’s top golfer was Lane Weigel placed 10th with an 87, Waylon Schmidt, 16th, 89; Alex Sowers, 64th, 144; and Josie Heter, 66th, 163.

Hutchinson Salthawk golfers place 9th at Dodge City Invitational

The Hutchinson High School boys golf team placed ninth in the Dodge City Invitational Thursday at par-71 Mariah Hills Golf Course.

Hutchinson’s top golfer was Alex Haas, who placed 16th with a 78. Maks Dreiling tied for 34th with an 83, followed by Mitchell Rice, tied for 42nd, 86; Tate England, tied for 51st, 88; Landyn Powell, tied got 51st, 88; and Brody Root, 83rd, 102.

Maize South won the tournament with a 292 score. Maize South’s Laken Matthews and Bishop Carroll’s Max Farber  tied for first in regulation with 67s. Matthews beat Farber in a playoff for first place.

Inman softball team splits twinbill against Bennington

The Inman softball team shut out Bennington 3-0 in the first game of a doubleheader Thursday at Bennington and lost 6-5 in the second game.

Hutchinson Central Christian, Hutchinson Trinity golfers ranked

The Hutchinson Central Christian boys golf team is ranked second in Class 1A and the Hutchinson Trinity Catholic boys are ranked fourth in Class 2A in the latest Kansas Golf Coaches Association poll released on Thursday.

The No. 1 teams are Blue Valley North, Class 6A; St. James Academy, Class 5A; Wamego, Class 4A; Wichita Collegiate, Class 3A; Syracuse, Class 2A; and South Gray, Class 1A.

KWCA Kansas Shrine Duals raises $25,000 for Shriners Children’s

The 2025 KWCA Kansas Shrine Duals on March 29 featured 57 of the top senior wrestlers across the state, competing together for one great cause, to benefit Shriners Children’s.

Together, the 57 wrestlers, coaches, family, friends and supporters teamed up to help raise $25,000 to benefit Shriners Children’s. On the mat.

Team West won 23 of the 30 matches at Fugate Gymnasium on the campus of Newman University in Wichita and posted a 113-36 team dual win.

Two Halstead seniors competed in the duals for the West team — Clayton Considine and Kahlyn Davis.

At 133-pound boys, Considine pinned Bryce Combes (East/Santa Fe Trail) at the 1:58 mark.

At 131-pound girls, Davis pinned Ellie Ruffin (East/Spring Hill) at the 4:47 mark.

Alex Francis Invitational moved to Friday, Blue Dragons competing

The Hutchinson Community College women’s and men’s track and field teams will have to wait a day before competing in their final regular-season meet of the season.

The Blue Dragons are scheduled to compete at the FHSU Alex Francis Invitational at the Fort Hays State Track and Field Facility.

The meet was originally scheduled for Thursday, but because of Thursday’s weather forecast with potential for heavy rain, the meet has been moved to Friday.

Field events are scheduled to begin at noon with running events set to start at 2 p.m.

Live timing and results will be provided by Heartland Timing.

Entering the Alex Francis Invitational, the Blue Dragon men have 20 qualifiers for the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 15-17 at Gowans Stadium.

The Blue Dragon women have nine national qualifiers.
