The Hutchinson varsity girls soccer team rallied from a 2-1 halftime deficit to defeat Valley Center 3-2 in double overtime Tuesday at the Salthawk Soccer Complex.
The Salthawks’ Rhyan Galyon scored the game-winning goal with 15 seconds left in the second overtime. Galyon scored Hutchinson’s other two goals and posted her third hat trick of the season.
The Salthawk varsity team snapped a two-game losing streak and improved its record to 7-3.
The Hutchinson High School junior varsity girls soccer team lost to Valley Center 1-0 Tuesday at the Salthawk Soccer Complex. The score was tied 0-0 at halftime.
Hutchinson hosts Maize South next Tuesday. Valley Center dropped to 6-4 and will host Maize on Thursday.
Buhler girls soccer team falls to Rose Hill
The Buhler High School varsity girls soccer team was shut out 7-0 by Rose Hill Tuesday night.
The Crusader junior varsity team tied the Rockets JV 0-0.
The JV got a clean sheet and penalty kick save by Abigail Cummins and clean second half for Josie Cummins.
Buhler plays at home Thursday against Winfield.
Salthawk softball team drops pair to Campus Colts
The Hutchinson High School varsity softball team was swept by Campus in a doubleheader Tuesday at Fun Valley.
Campus won the first game 19-3 and the second game 5-1.
In the first game, Campus scored 11 runs in the top of the first inning.
Addison Coupe as the starting pitcher for Hutchinson in the first game and Kohlbie Craft pitched a complete game in the second game.
Annalee Eckhoff singled in the Salthawks’ lone run in the second game. Jaden Durant went 2-for-3.
Hutchinson dropped to 3-13. The Campus Colts are 6-6.
The Salthawks play a doubleheader Friday at Salina South.
In other Tuesday area sports action:
• The Nickerson High School baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Hesston Tuesday. Hesston won the first game 15-2 and the second game 9-1.
• The Nickerson softball team lost two games to Hesston Tuesday. Hesston won the first game 17-1 and the second game 22-3.
• The Haven High School baseball team swept Tuesday’s doubleheader at Hoisington, winning the first game 7-5 and taking the second game 8-0.
• The Haven High School softball team swept Hoisington Tuesday night. The Wildcats won the first game 14-1 and the second game 12-0.
• The Halstead softball team swept a doubleheader from Smoky Valley Tuesday at Lindsborg. Halstead won the first game 11-1 and the second game 16-1.
• The Halstead High School baseball team swept two games from Smoky Valley Tuesday at Lindsborg. Halstead won the first game 6-5 and the second game 3-2.
• The Haven and Halstead junior varsity baseball teams split a doubleheader on Monday. Haven won the first game 9-3. Halstead won the second game 4-0.
Halstead’s Diana Schutte to coach Red team, daughter Dalaina at KVA All-Star Match June 7
Halstead High School volleyball coach Diana Schutte will serve as head coach of the Red Team at the Kansas Volleyball Association All-Star Match June 7 at Washburn Rural High School.
The KVA All-Star Match starts at 5 p.m.
Schutte will get to coach her daughter, Halstead senior Dalaina Schutte, who will play for the Red Team.
The Schuttes led the Halstead Dragons to a Class 3A state volleyball title. The Halstead girls basketball team, coached by Derek Schutte, also won the 3A state basketball title.
