Buhler divers compete at Wichita North meet
The Buhler High School swim and dive team sent three divers to Wichita North for a dive meet on Friday.
“This was the first 11-dive meet and 34 other divers were there from all over the area and even Kansas City schools,” said Buhler swim coach Shane DeWeese on the team’s Facebook page.
“It was a great learning experience and a brief taste of what state dive could look like for our swimmers if they earn that spot.”
Ellie Keeton placed the highest on the team with an 18th-place finish. Her dives were well-executed, with a top-scoring dive of 15.5 for her inward 1 SS (somersault) tuck.
Ellie Goering placed 21st overall, completing all 11 dives, with a top-scoring dive of 15 for her forward dive, tuck, and her forward 1 SS (somersault) tuck.
Evey Brooks also competed. She was unable to complete all 11 dives, but just barely, DeWeese said.
“Several judges commented that it would not be long before she *Brooks) was going to have them all,” DeWeese said. “This was the best competition we will see all year and the largest meet we will compete in. It enabled us to see and feel how a larger 11-dive meet would run and how it will work for state, if that happens.”
The Buhler girls swimmers and divers will compete in their final home meet Tuesday at the Hutchinson YMCA.
