Buhler High School senior tennis player Davian Spies netted his 100th career victory during a first-place finish in No. 1 singles Friday at the Maize South Invitational.
The Buhler boys won the team title.
Spies, who will play tennis at McPherson College next year, posted a 4-0 record.
At No. 2 singles, Tucker Schlatter placed second with a 3-1 record.
Buhler’s No. 1 doubles team and No. 2 doubles teams placed first with 4-0 records. Von Woleslagel and Reuben Harder played No. 1 doubles and Titus Bortzfield and Jaxton Gillette played No. 2 doubles.

Hutchinson baseball team splits doubleheader with Valley Center
The Hutchinson High School varsity baseball team split a doubleheader against Valley Center Friday night at Hobart-Detter Field at Carey Perk in Hutchinson.
The Valley Center Hornets (6-6) won the first game 11-8 and Hutchinson claimed the second game 12-8.
In the first game, Hutchinson led 8-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning after Cole Bleything hit a two-run triple and scored on a balk. The Hornets scored seven runs in the final two innings.
Hutchinson’s Caiden Beavers went 2-of-4 at the plate and stole two bases. Carter Morgan also stole two bases. Hutchinson had six stolen bases and six walks.
Beavers took the loss. Starting pitcher Jack Davis worked five innings, allowed one earned run and stuck out five.
In the second game, Hutchison put the game away with a seven-run fourth inning. JuJu Lyons and Landon Parks pitched for the Salthawks, with Lyons getting the victory.
Beavers and Lyons each had three hits for the Salthawks, who collected 12 hits and six more stolen bases. Beavers tole two bases. Jack Yoder drove in three runs. Morgan had two hits.
The Salthawks (6-4) play a doubleheader Tuesday at Maize South and play two games Thursday at Andover Central.
Hutchinson softball team drops two home games
The Hutchinson High School softball team was swept at home Friday night by Valley Center.
The Hutchinson Salthawks lost the first game at Fun Valley 11-1 and the second game 6-2.
Hutchinson will play a doubleheader Tuesday at Maize South and hosts Wichita Heights on Thursday.
In other Friday night area baseball and softball games:
• The Buhler High School baseball team split a doubleheader with Clay Center/Wakefield Friday night at Buhler. The Crusaders (8-4) won the first game 4-3 and lost the second game 15-8.
• The Buhler varsity softball team (9-3) swept a doubleheader from Clay Center/Wakefield, taking Game 1 5-1 and Game 2 12-3.
• In Friday’s softball doubleheader at Halstead, the Halstead softball team defeated Haven 10-9 in the first game and 8-5 in the second game.
• In a Friday night baseball doubleheader at Halstead, Haven defeated Halstead 10-2 in Game 1 and 10-2 in Game 2.
• The Inman baseball team defeated Moundridge 13-1 in Game 1 of a doubleheader and lost the second game 13-7.
• The Inman softball team downed Moundridge 10-0 in Game 1 of a doubleheader and won the second game 18-4.
• The Little River baseball team swept Marion in a doubleheader. Little River won the first game 19-2 and the second game 18-4. Little River hosts Ellsworth on Thursday.
Area track athletes compete in Wichita State Pre-State Challenge
Several area athletes competed in the Wichita State University Pre-State Challenge Thursday and Friday at WSU’s Cessna Stadium — the site of the state track scheduled for May 30-31.
Thursday area boys highlights:
• Buhler senior Henry Trumpp placed second in the Class 1A-6A boys 2,000-meter race with a time of 6:40.69.
• Hutchinson Trinity Catholic High School’s Jacob Lindstrom placed fourth in the 1A-3A boys 1,600-meter race with a time of 4:41.19. Inman’s Tyler Martisko and Riley Roots placed 5-6 with times of 4:42.81 and 4:45.92. Trinity’s John Lindstrom placed eighth in 4:47.09. Nickerson’s Levi Pauley was 11th in 4:48.8.
• Jacob Lindstrom placed eighth in the 1A-3A boys 3,200-meter race with a time of 10:23.16, Roots was 11th in 10:33.54 and John Lindstrom was 12th in 10:37.65.
• Halstead senior Braxton Creed placed sixth in the Class 1A-3A boys javelin (44.97 meters).
• Buhler freshman Ryan Cherry placed 10th in the 4A-6A 32,00-meter race with a time of 10:40.09.
Thursday area girls highlights:
• Buhler freshman Isabella Friesen placed fourth in the 4A-6A girls 3,200 with a time of 12:22.2. Teammates Corbin Starkweather and Allison Johnson placed ninth and 19th with times of 12:44.63 and 13:50.05. Starkweather placed eighth in the Class 1A-6A girls 2,000-meter race with a time of 8:24.8.
• Buhler freshman Haylee Kinast placed sixth in the 4A-6A girls 1,600-meter race with time of 5:45.61.
• Halstead sophomore Briley Allmon placed 10th in the 1A-3A girls 3,200 with a time of 12:54.89.
• Halstead junior Addisen Wills placed 11th in the 1A-3A girls 1,600-meter race with a time of 6:14.35.
Friday’s area girls highlights:
• Hutchinson Central Christian junior Jessa Losew won the Elite Elite girls triple jump with an effort of 11.23 meters. Losew and senior Belle Barnett placed second and third in the Elite Elite girls high jump competition, clearing 1.68 and 1.58 meters. Losew also placed fifth in the Elite Elite girls 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.32.
• Buhler sophomore Ryan Gotti won the 4A-6A girls triple jump with an effort of 10.18 meters. On Thursday, Gotti placed second in the Class 4A-6A girls javelin with a throw of 36.63 meters.
• Inman senior Katie Nichols won the first-place gold medal in the 1A-3A girls high jump, clearing the bar at 1.57 meters (about 5-1).
• Halstead freshman Annie Williams won the Class 1A-3A 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.92 seconds, placed third in the high jump at 1.52 meters (about 4-10) and fifth in the 200 (27.55).
• Nichols and Williams placed first and second in the 1A-3A girls long jump with marks of 5.02 meters and 4.99 meters.
• Halstead junior Mackenzie Ervin won the 1A-3A girls 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.98 seconds.
• The Inman girls won the 4×400 relay in Class 1A-3A with a time of 4:22.35.
• Sterling High School junior Julia Kilgore placed second in the Elite Elite girls 400-meter dash with a time of 58.74 seconds.
• Inman and Sterling placed second and fourth in the Class 3-1A girls 4×100-meter relay with times of 50.93 and 52.41 seconds.
• Nickerson senior Rachel Nisly placed second in the Elite Elite girls shot put competition with an effort of 11.75 meters. She also placed sixth in the 1A-3A girls discus with a throw of 31.48 meters.
• Inman sophomore Taylor Froese placed second in the 1A-3A girls shot put with an effort of 11.01 meters and was fourth in the Elite Elite girls discus with a throw of 34.64 meters.
• Buhler junior Laney Reiff placed third in 4A-6A girls 800 with a time of 2:25.82. On Thursday, Reiff placed seventh in the 1,600-meter Elite Elite girls race with a time of 5:29.62.
• Buhler sophomore Lillie Ledford placed fourth in the Elite Elite 100-meter dash with a time of 12.69 seconds and fourth in 200 with a time of 26.23 seconds.
• Buhler junior Jenna Lackey placed fourth in the 4A-6A girls 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.49 and placed seventh in the Elite Elite girls pole vault, clearing 2.90 meters.
• The Buhler girls 4×800 relay team placed fourth in 4A-6A with a time of 10:23.8.
• Inman junior Suttyn Harris placed fifth in the 1A-3A girls triple jump with an effort of 9.86 meters.
• Inman sophomore Brooklyn Black and Nichols placed fifth and sixth in the 1A-3A girls 100-meter dash with times of 13.09 and 13.2 seconds. Black placed sixth in the Elite Elite girls 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.42 seconds.
• Buhler sophomore Caiyra Henlein placed eighth in the 4A-6A girls 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.72 seconds and was 10th in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.54.
• Halstead senior Kahlyn Davis placed ninth in the 1A-3A girls discus with a throw of 29.66 meters.
• Halstead sophomore Khloey Schauf placed ninth in the 1A-3A girls shot put at 9.58 meters.
• Halstead sophomore Jordy Schroeder tied for ninth in the Class 1A-3A girls high jump at 1.42 meters (about 4-7).
• Nickerson junior Centhiya Bankston placed eighth in the 1A-3A girls long jump at 4.66 meters.
• Inman’s Leah Black and Dakota Nees placed ninth and 10th in Class 1A-3A girls with times of 1:05.09 and 1:05.41.
• The Inman girls 4×800-meter relay team placed 10th in Class 3-1A with a time of 12:08.55.
• Buhler placed 10th in the Class 4A-6A girls 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:31.25.
• Sterling’s Katie Inwood placed 10th in 1A-3A girls 800 with a time of 2:36.51.

• Buhler junior Gavin Lindahl won the 4A-6A boys 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.42. On Thursday, Lindahl placed sixth in the 1,600-meter Elite Elite boys race with a time of 4:24.55.
• Buhler junior Zach Friesen placed first in the 4A-6A boys 300 hurdles with a time of 41.55 seconds and fourth in the Elite Elite boys 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.42 seconds.
• Halstead senior Connor Herman placed second in the 1A-3A boys shot put with a 15.0-meter effort. Halstead senior Kurt Faudel placed seventh in the shot put at 14.20 meters.
• Nickerson senior Trenton Wood placed third in the 1A-3A boys triple jump, measuring at 12.62 meters.
• Inman’s Sam Brensing and Malachi Brink placed third and seventh in the 1A-3A boys 110-meter hurdles with times of 16.09 and 17.09 seconds. Brunk placed third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.92 seconds.
• Hutchinson Central Christian senior Jayden Linscheid placed fourth in the Elite Elite boys high jump with an effort of 1.93 meters. Buhler sophomore Dexter Fleeman was eighth at 1.83 meters.
• Halstead senior Joey Millspaugh placed fifth in the Elite Elite boys triple jump with a mark of 12.56 meters.
• Millspaugh’s senior teammate Breeson Bigley placed fifth in the Elite Elite boys 400-meter dash with a time of 50.8 seconds.
• Inman freshman Bo O’Neil placed fifth in 1A-3A boys discus at 41.64 meters.
• Halstead placed fifth in the Elite Elite boys 4×100-meter relay with a time 43.81 seconds.

• Inman senior Sebastian Martinez and Halstead senior Ethan Wilcox placed seventh and eighth in the Elite Elite boys pole vault with efforts of 3.35 meters and 3.05 meters.
• Buhler junior Max Harmony placed seventh in the Elite Elite boys please vault, clearing the bar at 4.01 meters. He also was 11th in the 4A-6A boys 100-meter dash with a time of 11.623 seconds.
• Inman placed 10th in the Class 1A-3A boys 4×400-meter relay with a time of 3:43.82.

Hoisington edges Hutchinson Trinity 103-100 for Nickerson Invitational boys title
The Hutchinson Trinity Catholic High School boys track team lost to Hoisington by 3 points in the race for the team title Friday at the Nickerson Invitational.
Hoisington edged Trinity 103-100 in the boys team standings, followed by Ellinwood 63.5, Reno County Homeschool 50, Nickerson 48.5 and Buhler 3.
Hoisington also won the girls team title, edging Ellinwood 114-105. Reno County Homeschool placed third with 63 points, followed by Buhler 32, Nickerson 25 and Hutchinson Trinity 18.
First-place boys winners from the area: Trinity’s Isaac Hammersmith, high jump, 6-4; Hammersmith, long jump, 21-01/2; Nickerson’s Noah Weber, triple jump, 38-2 1/2 (teammate Kason Bright placed second with a mark of 37-11 1/2); Reno County’s Bo Smith, javelin, 165-7; Nickerson 4×800 relay, 9:29.29; Hutchinson Trinity’s Alex Guajardo, 400, 53.72; Hutchinson Trinity’s John Lindstrom, 800, 2:07.95 (brother Jacob placed second in 2:09.34); and Hutchinson Trinity’s Noah Lau, 3200, 11:17.11.

Pretty Prairie, Fairfield, Reno County Sabres compete at Crosley Track Meet
Pretty Prairie High School hosted the 2025 Crosley Track and Field Invitational Friday night.
Pretty Prairie, Fairfield and the Reno County Sabres boys and girls track teams competed.
Garden Plain won the girls team title with 121 points, followed by Pretty Prairie 85, Fairfield 62, Stafford 56, Attica 42, Kinsley 40, Pratt-Skyline 32, Reno County 14, Cunningham 10 and Sedgwick 9.
Pratt-Skyline won the boys title, followed by Cunningham 78, Reno County 59, Kinsley 52, Garden Plain 48.5, Pretty Prairie 44, Attica 27.5, Stafford 26, Burrton 17, Fairfield 14, Sedgwick 5.
First-place winners for the Pretty Prairie girls: Carolyn Anders, discus, 99-7; Lauren Detter, 800, 2:30.15; 2×800 relay, 5:24.
