Blue Dragons, Grizzlies split another Jayhawk Conference baseball doubleheader

The Hutchinson Blue Dragons and Butler Grizzlies split another Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference doubleheader Saturday at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson’s Carey Park.

The Grizzlies won Saturday’s first game 20-10 and Hutchinson won the second game 7-6. Butler rallied with one run in the top of the eighth inning and four in the ninth in Game 2.

Hutchinson and Butler split a doubleheader Thursday at El Dorado. Butler won the first game 4-3 and Hutchinson won the second game 9-6.

In Saturday’s first game, Butler CC scored 12 runs in the final four innings and forced Hutchinson to use five pitchers. Nine of the Grizzlies 17 hits went for extra bases, including three home runs.

Hutchinson had 13 hits in Game 1, including five doubles and a home run by CJ Reid.

AJ Mustow belted two home runs for the Blue Dragons and Nick Glantz added one. Taber Stokes tripled. Mustow had three hits and Leo Griffin two.

Breck Romero belted a three-run homer for the Grizzlies (23-17 overall, 14-10 KJCCC) in Game 2.

Hutchinson used five pitchers, with starter Seth Ainsowrth getting the victory. Butler used two pitchers, with starter Whitley Rhodes getting the loss.

HutchCC (28-13 overall, 10-10 KJCCCC, 18-6 at home) plays a 2 p.m. single-game on Tuesday against Southeast Community College in Beatrice, Neb.

The Blue Dragons host a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Colby Community College on Thursday at Hobart-Detter Field and then play a doubleheader against the Trojans at 1 p.m. next Saturday at Young Memorial Field in Colby.

Hutchinson hosts the Sterling College junior varsity at 2 p.m. on April 22.

The Blue Dragons host Garden City Community College in a 1 p.m. doubleheader April 24 at Williams Stadium in Garden City, and then will host a 1 p.m. doubleheader against the Broncbusters on April 26.

Hutchinson will travel to Tiger Ballpark in Arkansas City for a 1 p.m. single game against the Cowley College Tigers on April 28.

Hutchinson’s final four-game league series will be played against Pratt. The Blue Dragons and Beavers play a 1 p.m. doubleheader May 1 at Hobart-Detter Field, and then play a 1 p.m. doubleheader May 3 at Stanion Field in Pratt.

Blue Dragon track athletes compete at KT Woodman Classic at Wichita State

The Hutchinson Community College men’s track team posted three first-pace efforts at the KT Woodman Track Classic Friday and Saturday at Wichita State University’s Cessna Stadium.

HutchCC’s Titus Kiprotich finished first in the men’s 5,000-meter run with a time of 14 minutes, 21.93 seconds.

Hutchinson sophomore David Thid won the men’s 400-meter race with a time of 47.43 seconds.

Hutchinson’s Leo LeGrand won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:50.74.

Hutchinson’s Kebba Makalo finished second in the men’s 100-meter dash with a time of 10.18 seconds.

The Blue Dragon men’s 4×100-meter relay team of D’Antonio Warren, Giovanni Jones, Telemaque and Makalo placed third with a time of 40.89 seconds.

Hutchinson’s Jayce Spencer placed third in the men’s pole vault, clearing 4.42 meters. Gregery Martinez’s 4.12-meter effort was good for 11th place.

Hutchinson’s Elisha Williams finished fourth in the men’s long jump with an effort of 7.47 meters. Malique Parkinson paced 13th with a personal record of 7.0 meters.

Jaydon Parkes placed sixth in the men’s open high jump competition with a time of 1.88 meters.

Ty’Rique Roland placed seventh in the men’s high jump invitational division with a height of 2.04 meters.

Warren placed eighth in the men’s 200-meter dash with a time of 21.09 seconds.

Blue Dragon Cornelius Kogo placed 11th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:34.12.

Hutchinson’s Taylor Zehr placed 11th in the men’s hammer throw with a personal-record distance of 49.45 meters.

Parkinson placed 12th in the triple jump with a mark of 13.96 meters.

Hutchinson’s Trevon Tyson and Jones placed 13th and 26th in the 100-meter dash with times of 10.513 and 10.597 seconds.

Blue Dragon Lushane Blake placed 21st in the 400 with a 49.9 time.

Hutchinson sophomores Grady Bare and Andrew Hildebrand placed 24th and 26th in the men’s shot put with efforts of 13.23 meters and 13.05 meters.

Bare, Hildebrand and Karson Engelland placed 25th, 27th and 28th in the discus with marks of 40.61, 39.65 and 39.49 meters.

Telemaque placed 29th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.86 seconds and 42nd in the 100-meter dash at 10.78 seconds. Tyson placed 31st in the 200 with a time of 21.91 seconds.

David Ultreras placed 59th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:15.59.

HutchCC women — Hutchinson’s Sidney Holt placed seventh in the women’s 200-meter dash at the KT Woodman Track Classic Saturday with personal-record time of 24.44 seconds.

Jordyn Picolet placed ninth in the women’s 5,000-meter race with a time of 17:43.99.

Brooke Hawkins, Yaya Moreno and Alycea McCoy placed ninth, 16th and 18th in the women’s triple jump with marks of 11.35 meters, 10.76 meters and 10.62 meters. Moreno set a personal record. 

HutchCC’s Azariah Dawes placed ninth in the women’s long jump with a mark of 5.42 meters. Moreno placed 13th with a mark of 5.20 meters.

The Hutchinson women’s 4×100-meter relay team of Sierra Brooks, Taniyah Cox, Dawes and Holt placed 10th with a time of 48.79 seconds.

Hutchinson’s Aiyanna Green placed 17th in the women’s shot put with a distance of 12.11 meters.

Grace Bender placed 15th in the women’s pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.04 meters.

Brooks placed 23rd in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.78 seconds and 41st in the women’s 200-meter dash with a time of 26.04 seconds..

Hutchinson’s Abigail Grantham and Laura Avila placed 25th and 385h in the women’s 1,500-meter run with times of 4:52.82 and 5:01.75.

Cox placed 43rd in the women’s 100-meter dash with a time of 12.81 seconds.

Hutchinson’s Ava Lemaster and Rio Kirven placed 43rd and 47th in the women’s 800-meter run with a time of 2:30.08 and 2:30.36.
