Hutchinson Trinity Celtic boys golf team 3rd at Salina Sacred Heart Invitational

The Hutchinson Trinity Catholic High School boys golf team placed third at the Salina Sacred Heart Invitational Tuesday at the par-70 Salina Municipal Golf Course.

Hesston and Salina Sacred Heart both posted 319 team scores, with Hesston placing first. The Swathers placed four golfers in the top six, six in the top 15 and nine in the top 26.

Hutchinson Trinity placed third with a 333 score. The Celtics won the Nickerson Invitational Monday with a 339 score.

Ellinwood placed fourth at 375 and Ellsworth fifth at 410.

The Trinity Celtics were led by Lincoln Barnes, who shot a 77 and tied for second with Hesston’s Carter Frey and Austin Penner. Salina Sacred Heart’s Luke Newell was the first-place medalist with a 73.

Trinity’s Ian Shaw placed 10th with an 83, followed by Tyler Casebolt, tied for 12th, 85; Matt Armour, tied for 16th, 88; Seamus Hogan, 18th, 89; and Miles Blaylock, tied for 19th, 90.

Other Hesston scores: Eli Frantz and Aiden Bridgeman, tied for sixth, 80; Eli Roth, tied for 12th, 85; Isaac Rusche, 15th, 87; Reece Buhrman, 23rd, 92; Ty Unruh, 24th, 93; and Tytan Howard, 26th, 97.

Other Salina Sacred Heart scores: Dominic Matteucci, tied for sixth, 80; Ben Marrs, ninth, 82; Ethan Newell, 11th, 84; Will Tuttle, tied for 16th, 88; Cody Burr, tied for 19th, 90; Harrison Torrey, 32nd, 113; and Edward Gawith, 35th, 125.

Ellinwood’s top golfer was Luke Heinz, who placed 14th with an 86. He was followed by Braden Lewis, tied for 21st, 91; Keaton Lewis, 25th, 95; Austin Shinliver, 27th, 103; and Austin Black, 28th, 104.

Ellsworth’s top golfer was Cooper McGowan, who tied for 21st with 91. Teammates Micah Galvan and Elyse Haxton, tied for 29th, 106; Aidan Johnson, 31st, 107; Braylyn Gardner, 33rd, 118; and Caleb Hays, 34th, 119.

Hutchinson Central Christian girls, Haven boys track teams claim team titles at Haven Invitational

The Hutchinson Central Christian High School girls and Haven boys captured the team titles at Tuesday’s Haven Invitational track meet

The Hutchinson Central Christian girls placed first with 134 points, followed by Haven with 85, Elyria Christian 44, Sedwick 11, Peabody-Burns 8 and Burrton 2.

The Haven boys placed first with 121 points, followed by Sedgwick with 91, Hutchinson Central Christian 75, Burrton 19, Elyria Christian 18 and Peabody-Burns 10.

First-place finishers for the Central Christian girls: Jessa Losew, high jump, 5-4; Belle Barnett, long jump, 15-2; Jessa Losew, triple jump, 36-6; Townsley Huff, javelin, 92-7; Addi Louderback, 100-meter hurdles, 19.27; Addi Louderback, 300-meter hurdles, 52.14; Belle Barnett, 100-meter dash, 13.43; Belle Barnett, 200-meter dash, 28.59; Jessa Losew, 400-meter dash, 1:01.11; Harper Newcome, 800-meter run, 2:51.16; 4×100-meter relay,  55.72; and 4×400-meter relay, 4:42.82.

First-place finishers for the Central Christian boys: Jayden Linscheid, high jump, 6-2; Keaton Miller, discus, 123-8; Keaton Miller, shot put, 47-7; and Konnor Sullivan, 110 hurdles, 17.83.

First-place finishers for the Haven girls: Maddie Richey, discus, 84-3 1/2; and Rilynn Patry, shot put, 32-9 1/2.

First-pace finishers for the Haven boys: Blake Richey, javelin, 139-6; Aiden Hoopes, 100-meter dash, 12.27; Van Loop, 200-meter dash, 24.19; Aiden Hoopes, 400-meter run, 56.46; Austin Honeycutt, 800-meter run, 2:31.23; Isaiah Doherty, 1,600-meter run, 5:01.45; Isaiah Doherty, 3,200, 11:07.77; 4×100 relay, 44.78; and 4×400-meter relay, 3:52.43.

Buhler boys tennis team wins home quad

The Buhler High School boys tennis team placed first at the Buhler Quad tournament on Tuesday.

The Crusaders swept Nos. 1 and 2 singles and Nos. 1 and 2 doubles. All four posted 3-0 records.

Buhler senior Davion Spies, who plays No. 1 singles for the Crusaders, signed a letter of intent to play tennis at McPherson College.

Also getting some varsity experience for the Crusaders were Rex Bradley and Brendan Ronin, who played No. 2 doubles as a fill-in for another team.

Celtic boys tennis team posts 3rd-place finish, two 4ths at Buhler quad

The Hutchinson Trinity Catholic boys tennis team posted one third-place finish and two fourth-place finishes at Tuesday’s Buhler Quad.

The Celtics’ No. 1 doubles team of Sam Madden and Vincent Wuertz posted a 1-2 record for third place.

In Nos. 1 and 2 singles, Trinity’s Sam Pennycuff and Ethan Harvey both placed fourth with 0-3 records.

“It was dood competition going up against bigger schools than us,” said Trinity tennis coach Gallagher Martin. “I thought our 1 doubles competed very well. They won a tough 8-6 match over Wellington, then lost in a tiebreaker to Maize South.

“They were up 7-5 against Maize South, so they were pretty close to a 2-1 day for second. Both kids are sophomores who are still learning how to win. Matches like that will make them better.”

The Celtics compete in the Hillsboro Meet at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Buhler JV boys golfers place 3rd at Buhler JV Invitational

The Buhler High School junior varsity golf team placed third in the Buhler JV Invitational Tuesday at the par-71 Hesston Golf Course.

Maize South won the tournament title with a 356 score, followed by Andover 361, Buhler 365, Circle 382, Goddard 389, Goddard Eisenhower 396, Hays 404, Andover Central 417, Rock Creek 419, Newton 421 and Salina South 446.

Halstead boys golf team 2nd at Herington Invitational

The Halstead High School boys golf team placed second at the Herington Invitational Tuesday at the par-72 Herington Country Club.

Council Grove won the tournament with a 351 score, followed by Halstead with 385, Hillsboro 405, Sedgwick 408, Goessel 414, Canton-Galva 442 and Herington 450.

Halstead’s top finisher was Wesley Parks, who placed seventh with a 90 score. Jacob Rose tied for 11th, 92; Maxx Linton, 20th, 101; Harrison Wilson, tied for 21st, 102; Lance Anderson, tied for 29th, 107; and Aaron Learn, tied for 33rd, 114.

Council Grove’s Brycen Palmquist was the first-place medalist with an 82. He edged out second-place finisher Easton Glessner of Lost Springs-Centre, who shot an 83.

Nickerson Panther baseball team routs Hoisington in Game 1, 2nd game suspended because of rain

The Nickerson High School Panther baseball team routed the Hoisington Cardinals 21-7 in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday at Hoisington.

In the second game, Nickerson trailed Hoisington 3-0 when it was suspended because of rain. The game will resume (bottom of the second inning, no outs and no runners on base) at 6 p.m. next Tuesday (April 15).

The Panther baseball and softball teams will play Friday at Andale. The baseball games start at 4 p.m. and the softball games at 4:30 p.m.

Nickerson will host the Nickerson Track and Field Invitational at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

Haven baseball team drops doubleheader against Pratt

The Haven High School baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader Tuesday night against Pratt tonight.

Pratt won the first game 9-2 and the second game 16-6.
