Hutchinson varsity girls soccer team beats Newton 3-1
Junior Rhyan Galyon’s three-goal hat trick led the Hutchinson High School varsity girls soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Newton Tuesday night at the Salthawk Sports Complex.
The Salthawks led at halftime 2-0.
Lily Rodriguez assisted on two of Galyon’s goals and Azul Maciel also had 1 assist.
The girls came out ready to play,” said Hutchinson girls soccer coach Jordan Proffitt. “We were able to thread the ball through to our forwards creating multiple goal scoring opportunities. Rhyan Galyon capitalized on three of her chances with high quality finishing.
“Midfielders Ayla Booe, Lily Rodriguez, Keyla Fernandez and Breckyn Edwards placed beautiful balls through to create ample goal scoring opportunities. The backline and Baleigh Cousins (goal keeper) played a strong game and held a good Newton team to only one goal.”
The Hutchinson-Newton junior varsity game ended in a scoreless draw at 0-0.
The Hutchinson varsity soccer team (5-1) will play a 5:30 p.m. game at Salina Central Thursday. The varsity and JV teams will host Valley Center on Friday.
“We look forward to growing from this game and facing Salina Central on Thursday,” Proffitt said.
