Hutchinson Central Christian golfers, Cael Kooiman place first at Solomon Invitational

Led by Cael Kooiman’s first-place individual performance and three other players in the top 10 (six total in the top 22), the Hutchinson Central Christian Cougar boys ran away with the Solomon Invitational golf tournament team title.

The tournament took place at the GreatLife Golf Course Thursday at Salina.

The Cougars posted a 319 team total, well ahead of second-place Abilene with 366 points. Ell-Saline placed third with 371 points, followed by Solomon 414, Goessel 429, Canton-Galva 470, Marion 510 and Clay Center 549.

Kooiman fired a 2-over-par 73 to win first-place medalist honors. He beat Bishop Seabury’s Jace Hoffman, who placed second with a 76. Lost Springs-Centre’s Easton Glessner placed third with a 78.

Central Christian’s Ryland Kooiman and Nathan Reed placed fourth and fifth with scores of 79 and 83. The Cougars’ Brady Froese tied for sixth with Goessel’s Levi Schrag with an 84.

Central Christian’s Tyler Reed placed 14th (97) and Tarron Scripsick placed 22nd (109).
