The Reno County Museum is opening its Vietnam War exhibit featuring local veterans and stories Friday, April 11.

Museum Director Bronwyn Page said the exhibit is a tribute to the veterans who served in Vietnam, especially those from Reno County.

“We stayed within Reno County, and some of the artifacts have come from parts of the nation and Vietnam,” Page said.

The exhibit follows the story of the war, from the beginning of the Vietnam draft lottery to life in a Vietnamese Prisoner of War camp.

“There’s a hall of just artifacts of anything you can think of,” Page said. “We have quotes and pictures from some of our local Reno County veterans that will also be displayed.”

At the opening, there will also be a table for veterans who wish to share a story from their experience in Vietnam.

“It’s a great learning museum exhibit,” Page said. “There will be a lot of literature.

Page said the museum partnered with Shawn Stone, a member of an organization in Wichita that collects and preserves artifacts from the Vietnam War. The museum loaned many artifacts that will be available for display.

The opening will last the entire open hours of the museum: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entrance to the museum is free, but visitors are encouraged to donate $2 per person to support the museum.
