The Hutchinson High School baseball team swept a doubleheader from the Andover Trojans Friday night at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson’s Carey Park.

The Salthawks won the first game 3-2 and the second game 4-2.

Hutchinson won the first game behind the pitching of Jack Davis, who earned the victory. Davis surrendered three hits and two runs over seven innings, struck out five and walked three.

Maverick Hurt took the loss for Andover. The right-hander went five innings, allowed three runs on five hits, struck out one and walked three.

The Salthawks scored one run in the first inning. Gabe Valadez singled in the run. Valadez extended the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning.

Davis, Valadez, Landon Parks, Cole Bleything and Jack Yoder each collected one hit for Hutchinson. Davis and Valadez each drove in one run.

Luke Osburn, Ryan Hatfield and Barrett Hill each collected one hit for Andover. Hill had two RBIs from the leadoff spot.

Hutchinson and Andover each turned one double play.

In the second game Friday night, Yoder singled in two runs and two runs scored on errors.

JuJu Lyons earned the pitching win for the Salthawks. Lyons struck out five, walked seven, gave up two hits and allowed two runs (zero earned) over 4 2/3 innings. Bleything collected the save.

Aiden Henry took the loss for Andover. He went four innings, allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits, struck out none and walked none.

Caiden Beavers went 3-for-3 and stole two bases. Yoder and Davis each drove in one run.

Isaac Holt, Hatfield and Parker Lane each had one hit for Andover. Kale Brodhagen and Hill each drove in one run.

Andover batters walked eight times. Ty Brown and Shal Ruud each walked twice. Hill had two of Andover’s six stolen bases. Andover’s defense turned one double play.

Hutchinson’s record is 3-3. Andover is 5-3.

The Hutchinson Salthawks play a doubleheader Tuesday at Derby and hosts a doubleheader against Valley Center next Friday.

The Hutchinson High School junior varsity baseball games against Andover were canceled because of weather.

Salthawk softball team drops two games to Andover

The Hutchinson High School softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Andover Friday night at Fun Valley in Hutchinson.

The Trojans won the first game over the Salthawks 8-0 and won the second game 16-10.

Hutchinson dropped to 1-5 on the season and Andover evened its record at 3-3.

The Salthawks host a doubleheader against Maize on Tuesday and host a doubleheader against Valley Center next Friday.

The JV softball games against Andover were canceled because of weather.

Hutchinson Salthawk boys, girls track teams both place 8th at Junction City meet

The Hutchinson Salthawk boys and girls track teams both placed eighth in the Junction City Invitational Thursday.

The Hutchinson boys scored 42 points and the Salthawk girls scored 38.

Manhattan’s boys and girls swept the meet championships with 175.5 and 165 points, respectively.

Hutchinson’s KeiRre Martinez placed first in the girls long jump with an effort of 17 feet, 2 1/2 inches and ran the second leg on the second-place 4×400-meter relay team that posted a time of 4 minutes, 27.41 seconds.

Ava Krone led off the 4×400 relay, Avery Tecklenburg was the third runner and Avery Meier ran the anchor leg.

Martinez also was the third runner on the third-place 4×100 relay team. Madelyn Moore led off, followed by Avery Meier. Emma Wittekind ran the anchor leg. They posted a time of 53.25 seconds.

Ava Krone placed third in the 200-meter hurdles with a time of 50.87.

For the Salthawk boys, the 4×100-meter relay team of  Daniel Boone, Camrynn Harris, Landon Nusser and Larry Jeremiah Jr. placed third with a time of 43.98 seconds.

Boone placed fourth in the ling jump with an effort of 20-7 3/4 and was fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.79 seconds.

Camrynn Harris finished fourth in the 100 with a showing of 11.68 seconds and Landon Nusser placed fourth in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet.

Hutchinson will send track athletes to compete in the K.T. Woodman Classic at Wichita State University Thursday and Friday and the Valley Center Invitational on Friday.

Lyons, Nickerson, Pretty Prairie golfers place 5th, 6th, 7th at Pratt Invitational

Boys golf teams from Lyons, Nickerson and Pretty Prairie placed fifth, sixth and seventh at the Pratt Invitational Thursday at Park Hills Golf Course in Pratt.

Pratt won its own tournament with a 342 score, followed by Cheney 350, Kingman 376, Medicine Lodge 402, Lyons 404, Nickerson 418, Pretty Prairie 447 and Chaparral 508.

Lyons’ Noah Geeves placed ninth (93) and teammate Landon Ankerhol tied for 10th (95). Teammates Robert Beitler placed 29th (107), Lucas Timberlak tied for 31st (109), Easten Benevidez placed 33rd (110), Diego Cabral tied for 38th (122) and Elijah Lyons placed 41st (125).

Nickerson’s Kolten Altvater placed seventh in the individual standings with an 88 score. Teammates Kyler Nikkel and Addrick Nelson tied for 21st (102) and Jacob Myers placed 42nd (126).

Pretty Prairie’s top finisher was Evan Young, who placed 23rd (103). Teammate Dawson Dick tied for 24th (104), followed by Collin Weide in 36th place (118) and Braden Wood at 45th (141).

Halstead softball team sweeps Hesston, Dragon baseball team swept by Swathers

The Halstead-Hesston baseball and softball doubleheaders at Hesston were moved to Halstead because of unplayable field conditions in Hesston.

The Halstead softball team defeated the Hesston Swathers 12-2 in the first game and claimed the second game 6-3.

The Halstead baseball squad lost to Hesston 13-6 in the first game and 7-6 in the second game.

Buhler JV boys tennis team competes at Maize South

The Buhler High School junior varsity tennis team competed at the Maize South JV Tournament on Friday.

Weather forces cancelation of HMS track practice, Nickerson baseball and softball games postponed

• Hutchinson Middle School track practice was canceled on Friday because of rain.

• Nickerson High School’s softball and baseball games Friday against Smoky Valley at Lindsborg were postponed because of excessive rain. The reschedule dates could be May 5 or May 6.
