Hutchinson High School graduate Cirildo “Cidy” Vargas is the next boys head soccer coach for the Salthawks.
Hutchinson High School athletic director Steve Kappenman made the announcement on Friday morning.
“I am extremely honored to run this program, having played for it to being an assistant for both the women’s and men’s teams in the past few years,” Vargas said. “I have a lot of be proud of in being a Salthawk.
“Coaching alongside coaches Tyler Lawrence and coach Jordan Downing-Proffit has been invaluable. Tyler left some big shoes to feel, but the boys and I are excited to get back to work and keep building up the culture he has established.”
Vargas formerly served as an assistant girls and boys soccer coach at HHS before taking the head boys coaching position. He is a former Salthawk soccer player.
Vargas replaces Tyler Lawrence, who served as Salthawk boys soccer coach since the 2022 season.
The Hutchinson boys soccer season ended with a loss on penalty kicks to Andover in the Kansas Class 5A West Regional #4 semifinals. The Salthawks posted an 11-4-2 record in 2024.
The 11 wins were four more than Hutchinson had during the 2023 season.
